Harvey Pekar, writer of the American Splendor comic book series, was
found dead this morning in his native home of Cleveland. He was one of America's most enigmatic comic book writers and a favorite of mine for many years. He wasn't your typical graphic novel writer. His stories did not include super heroes doing super things. Instead, his work was an autobiography- as boring and mundane as you can imagine. Yet, his words captured instances when seemingly little things had an impact on someone. He found interesting things to say about what he did and saw in his normal ordinary American life. Although I haven't read him in a while I can say his perspective will be missed.
