Loneywood!

These ladies have their sights on our first baseman. He was even kind enough to sign it for them. Via Twitpic.

The Sights and Sounds of Spring

I can feel Baseball in the air. The sights and sounds are becoming richer as Spring Training commences in the desert. Below are a couple of videos from Camelback Ranch. What I love more than anything about these videos is its seemingly silent nature. Yet, the blowing breeze, the sounds of a batted ball and the whack of the leather glove is all too reminiscent of something beautiful.

eBay: No Trash Here

For the nostalgic freak in us all, please check out this vintage 1988 official World Series Championship Dodgers waste basket. Imagine being a young kid as you lay on your bed listening to Vin Scully on the radio. You image the events unfold in your mind as you crumple pieces of paper into little balls and start shooting three-pointers into this basket. Jump shot- sky hook- the prayer off the side wall. Life was worry free back then. The Dodgers had just won their first World Series since '81 and finishing your homework was your only true worry. Heck, you worried more about whether Jay Howell could hold on for a save.

This 2 foot high trash can brings back some memories. It has the entire roster of that Cinderella team and brief rundowns of the teams playoff series victory. If it weren't for the shipping cost I'd be bidding on this right now so that I can briefly relive those days of yesteryear.

Here are some more photos to gaze at.

Who is this fine young man? Below is a press wire photo featuring a 18 year old Sandy Koufax. He is fresh out of the University of Cincinnati and is ready to sign a big league contract with the Brooklyn Dodgers.

That is one happy Campy. Below, Roy Campanella enjoys himself during a Spring Training game is Clearwater, Florida.

Celebrations like this never get old. Don Drysdale and Pee Wee Reese pour some beer on Dodger coach Joe Becker after winning the 1959 World Series.

Hey Joe, you staring at that injured thumb, or something else?

Goodness! Al Kaline lays motionless on homeplate after getting beaned on the back of the head by Bob Shaw of the White Sox in 1958. The only thing that saved him was a batting helmet.
