REMEMBER THE TITAN: Congratulations to Dodger third base coach Tim Wallach on his upcoming induction into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame! As a senior at Cal State – Fullerton in 1979, Wallach led the Titans to a College World Series title and was also selected as a first-team All-American by ABCA and The Sporting News in addition to winning the Golden Spikes Award. Wallach and the other members of the 2011 Hall of Fame class will be honored during an induction ceremony on July 3 in Lubbock, Texas.
- HUSTLE AND BUS-TLE: It was a busy day at Camelback Ranch – Glendale as players were shuffled in between green screens for Dodger broadcast partner KCAL, sessions with MLB Productions, filming segments with the club’s in-house DodgerVision crew and interviews with ESPN Baseball analysts John Kruk, Tim Kurkjian and Pedro Gomez, who were in town with Baseball Tonight’s Spring Training Bus Tour. The DodgerVision crew of Lauryn Lukin, Greg Taylor, J.D. Pruess, Tom Darin, Erick Vasquez and Cat Belanger has been in town for the last few days gathering footage for various Dodger Media Network shows and asking questions of the players that will air on the big board this season.
- A HURTING CHIEF: Following testing done yesterday in Los Angeles, it was determined that Vicente Padilla will need surgery to fix the right radial nerve that was being entrapped by one of the deep muscles in his forearm. The surgery will be performed tomorrow by Dr. Neal ElAttrache and Dr. Steve Shin at the Kerlan Jobe Clinic to release the muscle and free up the nerve. A timetable for his return will be laid out following the surgery, but General Manager Ned Colletti said that he expects Padilla to return at some point during the first half of the season.
MEET JOE BLOCK: The Dodgers would like to welcome new DodgerTalk co-host Joe Block to Camelback Ranch – Glendale as he joins Josh Suchon on the popular KABC 790 postgame program. Block spent the last four years as the host of “Hornets OT,” a call-in show that follows New Orleans Hornets broadcasts, but is quite familiar with the Dodgers after serving as the Jacksonville Suns’ play-by-play broadcaster back when Matt Kemp, Chad Billingsley, Hong-Chih Kuo, Jonathan Broxton, James Loney and Scott Elbert were with the Double-A club.
