Weekend Signing Ops: Kopitar, Dickerson and a Bunch of Dodgers

This is a fairly busy weekend for sports autograph hounds. Heck, if you love Baseball, Football or Hockey there is something for you to get excited about. As always, please be sure to check out the Blue Heaven Event/Autograph Calendar page for more listings not featured in this post. Also, be sure to call in advance to confirm.

First, I'll start with an event coming up tomorrow, Friday, December 2nd. Los Angeles Kings franchise player and star 1st line center Anze Kopitar will be signing autographs at the Sports Chalet in Burbank from 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm.

Sports Chalet
201 E. Magnolia #145
Burbank, CA 91502-1117

I understand that this is a free signing event, and you may bring your own collectibles for him to sign. Again, be sure to call the store in advance. (Hat Tip to LA Inspiration for the notice)

UPDATE: I have just found out that 4th line winger and the Kings enforcer Kevin Westgarth will also be on hand for this signing at Sports Chalet. Also, the time indicated says 5:00 pm to 6:00pm- although I was told on the phone it would be til 7:00 pm. Either way, I suggest getting there early. Here is a link with info, here.

Next, on Saturday at the OC Dugout in Anaheim Hills, Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson will be signing.

This is obviously a paying event. Again, call ahead for details. Here is a link to a facebook event page.

No weekend would be complete without some stars signing at Frank & Sons on Saturday. Here is a link to a site with further details. These are also pay events. I would call ahead of time if you are interested in Fernando's signature since it will be limited to just 300 tickets.

Collection: Tony Mota 2000 Topps Auto

This is a 2000 Topps autographed card of former Dodgers farmhand and son of Manny Mota, Tony Mota. He was drafted in the 17th round of the 1995 draft, but never reached the Majors. Mota played 6 seasons in the Dodgers farm system before moving along to St. Louis, Baltimore and several independent leagues. Currently, he coaches in the Dominic Summer League for the Arizona Diamondbacks.

SCP Auctions: Some Willard Mullin Brooklyn Bum Drawings, Part 2

Here is the second part of my post featuring some Willard Mulling cartoon drawings in SCP's current auction. Check out Part 1, here. Click any pic to embiggen.

This drawing is titled 'In the Hearts of Their Countrymen,' and it shows the Brooklyn 'Bum' coming across a parade that he is certain is for him.
Oh Boy! A parade! I'm nuts about parades!
He continues walk along marveling at the love.
Cheese! It's f'r ME! M' publick! They loves me! An' I likes them too!
But then he realizes that nobody notices him.
Hey! Look! Here I am! Hey! They went rught by me!
Only to quickly realize that he ain't the subject of their joy.
Well I'll be combed curried and turned out to pasture.
They're rooting for the Yanks.

This is a much cheerier drawing from Mullin. It is undated, and features the Brooklyn 'Bum' walloping his opponents. He remarks:
U-M-M-M-M Roas' Chicken... Done to a toin! 'At's too good f'r yez bums!

This is a great little drawing casting two storms blowing on the Giants, Dodgers and Yankees. The storm on the left resembles Walter Alston blowing the Giants and Dodgers westward, and the clouds on the right is the Roman God Jupiter Pluvious (the sky god and reliever of droughts) punishing the then hapless Yankees. This drawing is undated, but I suspect it is from 1959. The Yanks did not win the pennant that season.
