Weekend Autograph Opportunities: Maury Wills in the City of Industry

Here are this weekends autograph opportunities and events throughout the Southland. As always, be sure to check the Blue Heaven Calendar for other events (a link can always be found on the tab at the top of this page, just left of center), and always confirm with the establishment. Everything is subject to change.  Please email me with any tips about upcoming events in Southern California.  As the rest of the week progresses I'll update this post with other events (if there are any) as I become aware of them.  Also, I don't always list every event below, so be sure to check my Calendar.  I always try to favor free signing events over paying events.  Click on any pic to embiggen.

Lord Stanley and the Kings Visited Dodger Stadium Yesterday

The festivities is just beginning for the 2014 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings.  They had a parade on Monday afternoon, Jimmy Kimmel later that evening and a Dodger Stadium visit yesterday.  Who knows what's in store for tomorrow?

As you'll recall, nearly the entire Kings squad visited Dodger Stadium after their Stanley Cup victory in 2012 (check out my post on that here).  This time around, a much smaller contingent made out to the game for a ceremony and public celebration.

Before the start of the game they took some batting practice at Dodger Stadium.  Defenseman Matt Greene, who famously stayed in the Dodgers dugout in full uniform during the Stanley Cup celebration in 2012, is putting on batting gloves in the photo below.  I believe Jarret Stoll (left) and Drew Doughty (right) have their back to us.

Watch star defenseman Drew Doughty taking some hacks below.

In the meantime, Don Mattingly came out to meet the boys.  From left to right: Tanner Pearson, Mattingly, Mike Richards and Martin Jones.

So, how did the Kings players perform with a bat instead of a graphite stick?  Jon Rosen of the LA Kings Insider lets us know on twitter.

Considering the Dodgers recent woes, we might have to sign up Carter for the summer.

Here are some more pics I found featuring the Kings and Dodgers with the Cup on social media.  BTW, you can go here to check out all of the photos taken by Dodger photographer Jon SooHoo; including a bunch of pics featuring the Cup with some Dodger players.

Conn Smythe winner (MVP) Justin Williams is seen with his son, Hanley Ramirez and Yasiel Puig in the photo above.  The Kings watch some Dodgers in the batting cage below.

Check out Justin Turner with Lord Stanley below.

Drew Butera then had his turn.

Of course, you know Yasiel Puig wouldn't miss the fun.

The always stoic Uribe.

On the field.

Alanna Rizzo looks so excited.

Finally, Alec raises the cup for all to see.

“I’m not quite sure where the setback came,” Mattingly said. “He was running pretty well a couple weeks ago.”
  • You must check out the Historic Dodgertown Website.  They just put up an exclusive never-before-seen vintage video that features the 1951 Dodgers working out during Spring Training in Vero Beach that is in color.  Check it out here
“We are pleased to share this rare footage in tribute to longtime New York sportswriter Gus Steiger, who had this original film and passed it along to his son, Joel,” said Peter O’Malley, Historic Dodgertown chairman. “I knew Gus and he had the respect of everyone in the Dodger organization.”
Joel Steiger, featured in the film as a boy exploring Dodgertown, said, “The original film is edited to four and a half minutes. Our family is happy that it is available for Dodger fans everywhere. I was fortunate to travel to Dodgertown as a boy on several occasions and visit this historic place. I have many great memories of it and the people there.”
  • Ah... What?  Via Mike Oz at Big League Stew, "MLB teams join in Twitter sing-along of Taylor Swift song."  The Dodger twitter feed was a major participant - surely making Clayton Kershaw proud.  He recently professed his love of her music, via a story by Jimmy Traina at FoxSports.  A quote from Kershaw is below:
"By the way, if you don't like Taylor Swift, you're just lying to yourself. If you're a dude and you think you're too cool to like her, just get over yourself, really."
