A Recap of Dodgers Pride Night at the Kings Game

I was beginning to wonder if the Kings were going to hold a Dodgers Pride Night this season.   Then, on what seemed like extremely short notice, word spread on Thursday that the upcoming Saturday game against Edmonton would be the day.  The Kings would honor the city with some Dodger Pride, and this would be highlighted by some fantastic Dodger duds on the ice.  Thankfully, I was there, so here is my brief report on the festivities.

As you may already know, this evening is all about the pregame skate.  Over, at least, the past three years the Kings would head onto the ice for their pregame skate wearing Dodger-themed hockey jersey's.  [Go here to see my past reports: (2012-13) (2013-14) (2014-15)]  This meant the Kings in Dodger Blue.  However, we got a bit of a change this season.  The Kings came out wearing Dodgers "Home-Whites" on the ice.  Check out a bunch of my pics below.  Click on any photo to embiggen.

Unfortunately, I wasn't standing near the glass during the skate, so my photos are less than ideal.  For a more detailed and close-up view of the jersey check out the pic below of Kings defenseman Rob Scuderi, pic via @LAKings on twitter:

Snazzy, ain't it?  Although, I don't think they're quite as nice as the "Dodger Blue" jersey's they've worn in the past.  Check out what I mean in the photo below (from last year).

BTW, all the Dodgers jersey's worn by the Kings would be auctioned in benefit of the Kings Care Foundation.  I briefly went to the kiosk to check them out during intermission, but knew beforehand that I would never be able to take one home.  Having no money to burn, I couldn't afford the four figures it took to win.

With the pregame skate over and the game about to start, we were treated to the national anthem sung by KROQ personality Dr. Drew Pinsky.  Having never heard him sing, I was impressed with his baritone.  He sounded like an opera singer.  You can listen to it here.

Then former Dodger first baseman Eric Karros came out to drop the ceremonial opening puck.

After that, the game started, and what a start it was.  The Kings scored the first goal of the night in sixteen seconds.  Then, Edmonton answered back with a score of their own twenty-two second later.  Things settled down a bit after that, but I think most fans in attendance realized that the night was going to be a high scoring affair.

At the end of the first period the score was tied, 2-2.  The Kings then went ballistic in the second period; scoring three unanswered goals to take a formidable lead.  Unfortunately, as they are wont to do, the Kings let off on the accelerator during the third; giving up two goals to make it look close.  That is until Kings centerman Jeff Carter potted an empty-netter with about half-a-minute left to go.

The Kings won on Dodgers Pride Night by the score of 6-4.
