Blog Kiosk: 4/25/2016 - Dodgers Links - Puig, Scully and Don Mattingley's Return

No doubt Yasiel Puig is having fun again after a tumultuous season last year.  After Saturdays victory against the Rockies he somehow found himself standing among a throng of teens in formal wear.  It is prom season in America and Puig, obviously curios about the occasion, joined the revelry had by the student of ChatfieldHigh School of Littleton, Colorado.  He had the crashed the party and fortunately shared a couple pics on twitter for us to enjoy.

Featured above some of the kids with Puig in the middle (twitter link here).  Below, he poses with members of the high school Baseball team (twitter link here).

Below are more links to check out:
  • This Day in Dodgers History:  On this day in 1976 Rick Monday saved the American flag from a couple of protesters in the outfield at Dodger Stadium.  The incident was immortalized in the photo seen on the right.

Q: You worked with Urias in Rancho Cucamonga two years ago and Tulsa last season. Now entering his third start in OKC, what do you think of his development?

A: So far this year I've been happy with what I'm seeing. I think the biggest hurdle for him, in my opinion, was just how to handle emotions in game, and he's been great. He expect himself to be awesome every time out and sometimes his expectations aren't met. Sometimes he may get hit hard, an umpire may squeeze him or an error is made behind him. This year, so far, he's been great. He's grown up emotionally. We all know about his stuff and his arm and what he can do on the baseball field, but it's the other things you can't quantify on a computer he's needed the most work in.
“In some ways, relievers are like tightrope walkers,” Friedman said. “If you have the requisite stuff, so much of it is about confidence, and the preparation in terms of making sure that pitch selection isn’t the issue. Bardo (bullpen coach Josh Bard) has done a great job of starting to establish that culture in our bullpen of preparing ahead of time and putting themselves in the best position of really understanding what they want to do when they get out there.
  • ICYMI:  Yimi Garcia went on the 15-Day DL for right biceps soreness on Saturday.  Zach Lee, who was a candidate for the fifth spot in the starting rotation, was called up in his place.

The voice seemed to come out of the earth. It was cooling in the heat, a sort of collective whisper that I felt was heard by my ears alone. It was Vin Scully. How could this be? Many a night, a sleepless asthmatic, I’d heard Vin’s voice through a transistor radio held to my ear in bed, with his lilting call of a Dodger home run—“Back goes Mays, a-Way Back, to the wall, SHE—IS—GAWN!” And I knew two things: a Dodger home run was a woman. And my lungs would unstick themselves at the roar of the crowd and Vin’s voice. I would awake the next day, the grill of the transistor imprinted on my cheek.
“I think where we’re at as an organization, as a clubhouse, he has his fingerprints on a lot of it,” Ellis said. “I think he should be credited for that. The work him and Tim (Wallach, Mattingly’s bench coach in Los Angeles and Miami) did together the last three years was vital to our team success.”
