Dodgers Notes from Spring Training: Spring Game 32/Home Game 17

Throughout Spring Training the Dodgers PR department sends out helpful daily notes from Camelback Ranch, and I am happy to pass them along.  See what they've written below.

KONNICHIWA!: The Dodgers continue their three-game Freeway Series against the Angels tonight at Dodger Stadium, before heading to Anaheim for a 6:05 p.m. game Saturday (LHP Alex Wood vs. RHP Nick Tropeano) to conclude Spring Training. Tonight’s starter, Kenta Maeda, will make his first Dodger Stadium appearance in his final tune-up before the start of the season, after signing with the club during the offseason from Japan. After an off-day Sunday, the Dodgers kick off the regular season Monday against the Padres at PETCO Park.

  • The Dodgers took five of their six regular-season games against the Angels last season, sweeping a series at Dodger Stadium and taking two of three in Anaheim. Last year, the Angels won the first exhibition Freeway Series game and the clubs tied, 6-6, in the second and final game at Dodger Stadium.

CLOSE BUT NOT ENOUGH: Last night, the Dodgers fell to the Angels, 2-1, dropping their third consecutive game and falling to 13-15-3 this spring. Outfielder Yasiel Puig drove in the lone Dodger run with an RBI single in the fifth and also recorded his second stolen base of Spring Training. On the mound, starter Scott Kazmir pitched a solid game, allowing just one unearned run on four hits in 4.2 innings and collected four strikeouts in a no decision. Relievers Yimi Garcia (0.1 IP), Pedro Baez (1.0), Louis Coleman (1.0), Chris Hatcher (1.0) and Kenley Jansen (1.0) each tossed scoreless baseball for the Dodgers.

GETTING OFFENSIVE: The Dodger offense ranks sixth among NL clubs this spring with a .280 team batting average, .348 on-base percentage and a .804 OPS.
  • Justin Turner has hit safely in all 10 of his Cactus League games, going 14-for-25 (.560) with six doubles, three homers and nine RBI.
  • Scott Van Slyke has a .340/.421/.600 slashline to go along with three homers and six RBI in 18 Cactus League games.
  • Charlie Culberson has collected a team-high 14 RBI this spring and is tied for sixth in the Cactus League, while posting a .308 batting average.
