Opening Day Lineup and Notes Against Padres

What a beautiful day.

If not for having to be at work, I would be saying that it is a perfect day.  Below is the lineup for both the Dodgers and Padres:

Dodgers
Padres
Utley 2B
Jay CF
Seager SS
Norris C
Turner 3B
Kemp RF
Gonzalez 1B
Myers 1B
Puig RF
Ramirez SS
Crawford LF
Solarte 3B
Pederson CF
Upton LF
Ellis C
Spangenberg 2B
Kershaw P
Ross P

Some Game Notes:
Seager is the youngest opening day starting shortstop in 72 years, and the second-youngest dating back to 1913. At 21 years, 343 days old on Monday, Seager is the youngest since future major league manager Gene Mauch started at shortstop for the Dodgers on opening day in 1944 during World War II at 18 years, 152 days old.
  • Joe Davis passes along an interesting Chase Utley tidbit via twitter:
  • Carl Crawford has a .500 average against the Padres starter, Tyson Ross.  In eighteen at-bats he has nine hits, four of which were doubles, four walks and one RBI.  His batting line is: .500/.591/.722/1.313.
  • Clayton Kershaw will pitch his 6th consecutive Opening Day for the Dodgers today.  The team is undefeated in those previous five starts.  Kershaw has pitched a total of 31 2/3 innings on Opening Day, giving up only 21 hits, four runs (an 1.14 ERA) and striking out 35.  In ten starts at Petco Park for his career he is 4-2 with a 2.13 ERA.  Via Doug Padilla at ESPN:
“It’s a huge honor to be a part of it obviously,” Kershaw said last week, after his final Cactus League start. “It’s tough to balance. It is just one game to the significance of getting to start it. It’s a tough balance there for sure, but I do enjoy getting to pitch it, for sure.”
  • BTW, Matt Kemp is batting .400 against Kershaw in just five at-bats (six plate appearances).  He has a double, a walk and three RBI's.  He has struck out twice.
The game starts at 4:05 PM and will be aired on ESPN & SNLA (apparently, ESPN is blacked out in LA).
