I get the feeling that the retooling of the Dodgers relief staff is just beginning. The Dodgers announced this afternoon that they are bringing back right-handed reliever Chin-Hui Tsao. Mike Bolsinger, who started last nights game, has been optioned back to Oklahoma City.
As you'll recall, the Dodgers initially signed Tsao as a free agent last winter. He pitched well enough that Spring to be invited to stay with the club in the minors. Quickly, he worked himself back into Major League shape (after having been out of the Majors for eight years), and eventually pitched in five games for Los Angeles that July with mixed results. This season he started the year with the Oklahoma City Dodgers and did quite a bit of closing for them.
Per a Dodgers press release:
Tsao has gone 1-1 with six saves and a 3.31 ERA (6 ER/16.1 IP) at Triple-A, including a run of 8.1 consecutive scoreless innings in his last eight games since April 29. The 34-year-old native of Taiwan made five appearances for the Dodgers last year, going 1-1 with a 10.29 ERA (8 ER/7.0 IP), and has a 5-5 record with a 5.76 ERA in 55 big league games (eight starts) with the Rockies (2003-05) and Dodgers (2007, 2015).BTW, Tsao will wear #59. He wore #44 last year.
In celebration of Tsao's arrival back to Los Angeles I made the above fantasy card for him. I used a photo taken by Jon SooHoo during Spring Training and the 1981 Fleer Baseball card design.
Below are his career stats, via Baseball-Reference:
