Things looked bleak early on, but as the yesterdays game wore on the Dodgers continued to battle and eventually came away with a victory. Via Doug Padilla at ESPN:
"It was good to see after we spotted them four in the first, Kaz goes out there and throws up four zeroes," manager Dave Roberts said. "We responded, put up a crooked number and figured out how to win a baseball game. It's something that we saw this series, and there were some good at-bats. I liked the way we didn't quit."Scott Kazmir went five innings, gave up four hits, and four earned runs (all in the first inning). At one point he recorded twelve straight outs. Then the bullpen came in and was magnificent. Via Adam Berry and Ken Gurnick at MLB.com:
"He just pitched better. He got downhill angle. He started throwing strikes. The changeup played. He was a completely different guy on the mound," Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said of Kazmir. "Their bullpen has been one of their strengths. We got to see some of that this series. … The opportunities after the first, there weren't many."Photo above via SportsNet LA on twitter. - This Day in Dodger History: In 2008 the Dodgers are no-hit by the Angels at Dodgers Stadium, but won the game 1-0. The only run in the game scored on a sacrifice fly by Blake DeWitt in the fifth inning. He drove in Matt Kemp - who had gotten on base on an error and advanced to third on another error during a steal attempt.
- Happy Birthday, Al Downing!
- Via Doug Padilla at ESPN; "Clayton Kershaw not expected to miss start after back treatment."
(Dave) Roberts called Kershaw's lower-back discomfort an "off-and-on issue" but sounded far from concerned about it, saying Kershaw "absolutely" would make his next scheduled start, expected to be at home Friday against the Colorado Rockies.
- Thanks for the memories, Nick! Per a tweet by Oakland A's beat reporter Jane Lee, starting pitcher Nick Tepeche has been claimed off waivers from the Dodgers by the A's. This past Friday Tepeche filled in as a starter for the Dodgers and got shelled by Pittsburgh. In four innings pitched he gave up seven hits and five earned runs in his Dodger debut.

McCarthy allowed four runs on seven hits, including one home run, in his five innings, with three strikeouts and no walks. Three of the runs were earned, though there seemed to be at least three or four plays that probably should have been made that weren't, including one hit that was changed twice by the official scorer, first to an error then back to a hit.But most importantly, McCarthy kept progressing and continued to build up his arm strength 14 months after surgery.
- Congrats! The NHL announced four new entrants into their Hall of Fame yesterday, and it includes longtime LA Kings goalie Rogie Vachon. It's about time! Per a NHL press release:
“Rogie Vachon joined the Montreal Canadiens in 1966 and won three Stanley Cups in his first six NHL seasons. After being traded to the LA Kings in 1971, he continued his stellar career for 11 more seasons before retiring to become an NHL coach and executive.

“I was very lucky to play for the Montreal Canadiens at the start of my career,” said Vachon. “My first shot on net was a breakaway by Gordie Howe. I stopped it and it kept me in the league for 16 more years.”
Also, former Kings coach (from 1984 to 1986) Pat Quinn was also elected into the Hockey Hall of Fame under the "Builder" category.
- Rogie Vachon being elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame is akin to Dodgers first baseman Gil Hodges finally getting his due in Cooperstown. For this longtime Kings fan this is a shocking development, and I couldn't happier. Below is what Rogie said upon hearing the news, via a tweet from Jon Rosen:
Rogie thanks committee. "After a while you sort of don't wait anymore..." Says he's "still in shock."— Jon Rosen (@lakingsinsider) June 27, 2016
