I was running around eBay the other day and came across a couple of items I just had to share here (Auction Link). Featured above is a group of three fan-taken photographs of members of the Brooklyn Dodgers. According to the seller they were taken at the Polo Grounds - home of the NY Giants. He also states they're from 1955, but that can't be right.
At the top right is manager Chuck Dressen, and he was not with the team in 1955. That season he was managing for the Washington Senators. He was, on the other hand, manager of the club from 1951 to 1953, and a coach from 1958 to 1959. To the right of Dressen is Jackie Robinson, and at the bottom is Pee Wee Reese.
One of the more unique items I saw is the below grouping of spring training memorabilia from Havana, Cuba, circa 1941. (Auction Link)
Let's take a closer look at each individual item.
Above is the front cover to a game program from Gran Stadium Cerveza Tropical, otherwise known at the time to locals as La Tropical. Today it is called Pedro Marrero Stadium and it is now Cuba's national soccer stadium.
On the cover are pics of Dodger manager (and sometime shortstop) Leo Durocher and Dodger outfielder and future Hall of Famer Joe Medwick. Below are a couple of pages within this program. Click any pic to embiggen.
Below is a scorecard with a fantastic Baseball graphic on the reverse.
Here are a couple ticket stubs for games between the Dodgers and Giants. On the bottom left is a stadium pass that is marked with the name Nellie Durocher - daughter of Leo Durcher.
Finally, below are three photographs of several Dodger players. At top are "Fat" Freddie Fitzsimmons (on left side) and Cookie Lavagetto (on right side) throwing 22-year old rookie shortstop Pee Wee Reese into the pool at the Hotel Nacional de Cuba. Below that is a candid shot of Pee Wee having a snack and Hall of Famer Paul Waner warming up with the bat.
