So much awesome last night.
The Dodgers extended their lead in the NL West to two games last night by defeating the Giants, 9-5. Per Ken Gurnick and Chris Haft at MLB.com:
"It was a big team offensive effort," said (Adrian) Gonzalez. "We just had good at-bats throughout the middle of the lineup tonight. We struggled early in the year, but now we're doing our part."And even though Kenta Maeda was far from his best, having uncharacteristically thrown two wild pitches and walking four in five innings, he did out duel an obviously flustered Madison Bumgarner. The Dodgers knocked out nine hits against MadBum to score five during his five innings pitched. Kenta's outing was highlighted by a key strike out that ended his evening in the fifth inning.
"For him to punch out Pence in the fifth, that was a fun sequence," said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. "That was a spot right there, I wanted him to get Pence. I felt that was his hitter."Photo above via Jon SooHoo/LA Dodgers 2016. Go here to check out more pics taken by Jon and Jill Weisleder from yesterdays game. Below are more links to check out:
- This Day in Dodgers Baseball: In 1941 the Dodger "SymPhony" band makes it debut at Ebbets Field. In 1957 the Dodgers tied a Major League record by using eight pitchers in one game during an 13-3 loss against the Milwaukee Braves. In 1960 Vin Scully famously had fans at Dodger Stadium wish third base umpire Frank Secory a happy birthday during the game. In 1975 Davey Lopes stole a Major League record 38th consecutive base. The streak also ended when he was caught stealing later on in the same game.
- Happy Birthday, Enrique "Kiké" Hernandez!
- Via Gemma Kaneko at Cut4; "Rob Segedin hit his first MLB home run on the same day his wife went into labor." Actually... Not exactly.... The due date was on Monday, but she didn't give birth until last night. According to a Dodgers tweet this morning Robinson Marley Segedin was born at 11:36 PM last night. He was 6 lbs, 14 oz. and looks mighty healthy. Check out a pic of the happy parents with son here.

- It's Official! Yesterday the the State of California officially named a stretch of Interstate 210 after Brooklyn Dodgers Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson. Per a press release from Assemblyman Mike Gatto:
“Jackie Robinson is not only an inspiring figure to us for his accomplishments in athletics, but also as a civil-rights-era trailblazer who advocated for social change,” said Assemblyman Gatto. “His contributions to baseball and society have made an everlasting impression on our nation.”
It is located on 4.2 miles of Interstate 210 between Gould Avenue and Orange Grove Boulevard.
- The Dodgers DL parade continues unabated. ICYMI, Brett Anderson and Scott Kazmir were both placed on the 15-Day DL. Kazmir's addition marks the 27th different Dodger to go on the DL this season, which ties a MLB record for most by any team over the past 30 years. Ugh!

"Chase, he's been maintaining his foot, so he's taking care of it," manager Dave Roberts said. "That's why we had to get him out of the game. Couldn't stay on his feet any longer."

- Via Doug Padilla at ESPN; "Bullpen session has Clayton Kershaw more optimistic of '16 return."
"It was a good test," Kershaw said afterward. "We got to go through sequences, simulating facing hitters. It was all good steps. I feel good and I'm ready for the next step. I'm not quite sure what that is at the moment. It will be either another (bullpen) or facing hitters."

“Lower-half stuff, mechanical stuff,” said Toles. “I was working with our Triple-A guy, our hitting coach Shawn Wooten. He saw some things in my swing that nobody else saw.”
- This mornings Baseball America prospect report tells us a bit about Dodgers 2015 1st Round Pick Walker Buehler's professional debut yesterday:
The former Vanderbilt star had Tommy John surgery shortly after the Dodgers made him the 24th overall pick in 2015. He got back on a mound in earnest on Tuesday, making his pro debut in the Rookie-level AZL against the White Sox. Buehler struck out three in two scoreless innings, and according to BA’s Bill Mitchell, who was on hand, Buehler’s fastball ranged 95-97 mph with a cutter in the low 90s and a tight curveball with plenty of spin. With the trade of Grant Holmes, Jharel Cotton and Frankie Montas to Oakland, Buehler could be looked at as the Dodgers’ No. 2 pitching prospect behind Jose De Leon, with Julio Urias graduating.
