Pirates Series Starts on Friday - Stadium Giveaways, Pregame Info and Other Stuff!

The next homestand starts on Friday against the Pittsburgh Pirates.   Below are some odds and ends for this upcoming homestand.

The Pittsburgh “Primanti” Dog will be available for this homestand only against the Pirates at the Extreme Loaded Dog concession areas located on the field, loge and reserve levels. It features an all-beef hot dog topped with French fries, provolone cheese, coleslaw and tomatoes.

The ninth 2016 issue of the new Dodger Insider magazine, featuring Howie Kendrick on the cover, will be available at Dodger Stadium.  (see it on the left).  The Dodgers merged their previously separate Playbill and Dodger Insider magazines into one publication (at least 80 pages per issue) with a new edition available each homestand.  They are distributed at auto gates (one per vehicle) and via Fan Services for those who use alternate transportation.

Friday, August 12th at 7:10 PM

Friday's game starts at 7:10 PM.  Auto gates open at 4:40 PM, and stadium gates open at 5:10 PM.  It is Friday Night Fireworks, so fans will be able to go down onto the field after the game to watch the spectacle. The night's theme will be music from Elvis.  It was 50 years ago when Presley shot a scene from the movie “Spinout” in the Dodger Stadium parking lot.   Go here for more information on Friday Night Fireworks.

It is LA Kings Night at Dodger Stadium.  Folks who ordered a special ticket package will get an exclusive LA Kings Night scarf.  See that on the left.  If not already sold out go here for information.

Former Kings Derek Armstrong and Daryl Evans will sign autographs for fans in the right-field plaza from 5:10 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and will be joined by the Ice Crew and mascot Bailey. The group will also be on the field for pregame ceremonies. Kings Kyle Clifford, Trevor Lewis, Brayden McNabb and Tyler Toffoli will throw the ceremonial first pitch. The entire Kings group will officially start the game by announcing “It’s time for Dodger baseball!”

Levy Restaurants will offer the LA Crown drink Friday which features Crown Royal, Coca-Cola on the rocks with a lime wedge and it will be available for purchase at the right and left-field plaza bars.

DJ Adam will provide musical entertainment in the right-field plaza and Hair Feathers band will be in the left-field plaza from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) will play host to the winners of this season’s Dodgers RBI Recycling Challenge. This season participating Dodgers RBI teams generated more than $26,000 from recycling. The first, second and third-place winning teams who recycled the most will be on hand for the game. The voice of the campaign, Dodger broadcaster Orel Hershiser, will catch the first pitch thrown by the pitcher of the first-place team, the Dodgers of Roosevelt Park.

• The Military Hero of the Game is U.S. Army veteran Major James D. Key of Los Angeles. Key’s military awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. Key currently serves as the Brigade Chaplain for the 10th Mountain Division Sustainment Brigade in Fort Drum, NY. He is the author of more than 40 articles and one book titled “Touch and Go: From the streets of South Central Los Angeles to the War in Iraq.”
• The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) conducts silent auctions throughout the season featuring signed pieces of memorabilia from Dodger players, coaches and alumni. Auctions take place behind the Vin Scully press box on the club level. The items for auction tomorrow include a Clayton Kershaw autographed jersey, an Adrian Gonzalez autographed photo and a Joc Pederson autographed baseball. More than 25 items will be up for bid.

Saturday, August 13th at 1:05 PM

Saturday's game starts at 1:05 PM.  Auto gates open at 10:35 AM, and stadium gates open at 11:05 AM.

It is Movie Night at Dodger Stadium.  The club will treat fans to “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” and it will be screened for fans following Saturday’s game. Screenings are free with a game-day ticket. Fans sitting in the right field pavilion and left field pavilion will be invited down to the field postgame for a better viewing experience.

ThinkCure! weekend, in support of City of Hope’s efforts to find new treatments and cures for cancer patients, starts on this day.  Saturday’s first pitch will be thrown by Steven T. Rosen, M.D., provost and chief scientific officer at City of Hope.  Donations can be made by visiting the ThinkCure! web site at www.thinkcure.org.

The Dodgers will play host to the SoldierCare Project. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have produced more amputee, brain-injured and PTSD young men and women than in any other conflict. SoldierCare, based in Studio City, identifies newly-injured soldiers and sponsors trips to California with their families or significant others as a much-needed break from year-long rehabilitation schedules. SoldierCare mentors these young men and women with post-discharge support, wish lists for their return to civilian life and navigating medical care in the VA system.

As part of the SoldierCare Project, a group of heroes will throw the ceremonial first pitch: U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Odin Ayala of San Diego who served in Iraq and Afghanistan; U.S. Army Sergeant Cristian Valle of Livermore who served in Iraq; U.S. Marine Staff Sergeant Jonathon Blank of Augusta, KS, who served in Afghanistan; U.S. Army Sergeant Patrick Wickens of Denton, MT, who served in Iraq; U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Jon Warren of Laguna Niguel who served in Iraq; U.S. Marine Lieutenant Corporal Dakota Potter of Wilmington, NC, stationed at 29 Palms; U.S. Marine Staff Sergeant Anthony Meter of Checotah, OK, who served a deployment in the Pacific; U.S. Marine Staff Sergeant Jonathan Murr of Crystal City, MO, who served in Afghanistan; and U.S. Marine Corporal Tyler Williams of West Haven, CT, who served in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom in Iraq and Afghanistan.

DJ Adam will provide musical entertainment in the right-field plaza, a balloon artist will be in the left-field plaza, Smokin’ Cobras Band will provide musical entertainment in the right-field reserve and Angel City Dixieland Band will be in the left-field reserve from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

• The Military Hero of the Game is U.S. Navy Lieutenant Ridge Alkonis of Los Angeles. Alkonis completed anti-submarine warfare weapons and tactics instructor training in Point Loma. As a crewmember on the USS Fitzgerald in Yokosuka, Japan, he deployed throughout the Indo-Pacific region as an independent destroyer. He was awarded three Navy Commendation Medals and a Flag Letter of Commendation. He is currently stationed in Monterey, attending the Naval postgraduate school to earn a master’s degree in engineering acoustics.

Sunday's game starts at 1:10 PM.  Auto gates open at 10:40 AM, and stadium gates open at 11:10 AM.  The first 40,000 fans in attendance will receive a Magic Johnson Garden Gnome.  See it on the right.

It is Viva Los Dodgers in the Dodgers parking lot prior to the game at the Historic 76 Station.  Festivities begin at 11:10 AM.  Entertainment will be provided by BombaChante and Ballet Folklorico Otomi. Dodger alumni Billy Ashley and Manny Mota will sign autographs for fans.

In honor of ThinkCure! weekend Sunday’s first pitches will be thrown by hematologist Stephen J. Forman, M.D., leader of the Hematologic Malignancies and Stem Cell Transplantation Institute at City of Hope, and his patient, leukemia survivor Steven Bochco, an Emmy Award-winning television producer and writer, and pediatric patients treated at City of Hope taking the field as part of “Kids Take The Field” and as announcers for “It’s time for Dodger baseball!”  Donations can be made by visiting the ThinkCure! web site at www.thinkcure.org.  The Dodgers will also present a Community Hero Award to Ely Flores, a local, national and international advocate and leader for opportunities and education for marginalized youth. 

• The Military Hero of the Game is U.S. Marines Corps veteran Corporal Josue Barron of Los Angeles. Barron joined the Marines right after high school graduation and was assigned to the 3rd Battalion 5th Marines at Camp Pendleton. During his second deployment to Afghanistan, he stepped on an IED, which resulted in the loss of his left leg and left eye. After months of recovery and surgeries, he wears a glass eye that bears the Marine Corps logo. He is currently completing a bachelor’s degree.
