A Brief Vin Scully Weekend Wrap-Up

Here are various links and stories related to Vin Scully Weekend.  As you can imagine it would be impossible to link to them all; nevertheless, I hope this allows us all to relive the most dramatic, if not most emotional Dodger weekend over the past twenty years.

  • Video:  Vin Scully sings 'Take Me Out to the Ballgame' and gets a nice ovation from the crowd at Dodger Stadium on Friday. (Link Here
  • Instead of listing every video related to Sunday's Scully retirement ceremony (and there are plenty) I will instead link to a post by Sons of Steve Garvey that has them all.  Go here to check them out.
  • Video: Vin Scully talks to all the fans at Dodger Stadium about how much they mean to him and how much he appreciates the players.  (Link Here)
  • Video: Listen to Vin sing "Wind Beneath My Wings" on Sunday, via DodgersNation on YouTube. (Link Here)
  • Video:  Watch Vin's last walk-off home run call at Dodger Stadium (Link Here).
"Maybe I'll forget who my last out was, or how many walks I gave up in my career, but his quote, 'If anyone has a sombrero, throw it to the sky,' it's something I'll never forget. That will remain forever." That call was recently voted by fans as number five in the top 20 greatest moments in Vin Scully's 67 years as the Voice of the Dodgers.

"It's something that comes from someone who has great experience calling baseball. To hear it from someone like him, it's a really nice memory," added the 'Bull of Etchohuaquila,' who currently serves as a color analyst on Spanish-language telecasts of Dodgers games.
  • How had this not already happened?  Per a press release from the office of Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, Vin Scully received a key to the city prior to Fridays game.
“Vin Scully’s legend will live long after he takes off his headset and leaves the booth for the final time in his storied career. For 67 years, Vin has been more than the voice of the Dodgers — he has been the soundtrack to some of the best and most exciting moments of our lives. It is close to impossible to imagine Dodger baseball without his incomparable way with words and the boundless wisdom he has shared with generations of fans around the world. Vin Scully is the very definition of an L.A. icon, and he will forever have the gratitude of the city whose story he helped to write.”
"I have no idea," Scully said. "Maybe the first thing I'll do Monday morning is take my watch off and put in the drawer and think I can do anything I want, which is probably have a nice breakfast, read the papers, maybe take a walk and get a good book. That's the first thing I'll probably do."
