- This Day in Dodger History: In 1998 Kevin Malone is named the Dodgers GM, replacing Tommy Lasorda. Fans old enough will remember this one. In 1983 RJ Reynolds squeezed home Pedro Guerrero in the ninth for an improbably walk-off victory against the Atlanta Braves. The Dodgers scored four runs in the ninth to win. Tommay Lasorda called his decision to call fro the squeeze his most "daring" of his career.

“You really don’t replace him,” (Joe) Davis said. “As with anybody is any profession who’s been the best to ever do that profession, you just don’t. There’s nobody alive right now or yet to be born that is ever going to do what Vin Scully was able to do in his 67-year career.”
Which means that next season, if everything goes according to the understood plan, Davis will find himself in a position that is both historic and tricky. He’s the guy who gets to follow Vin Scully, but he’s also — gulp! — the guy who has to follow Vin Scully.
“I hope that people, over time, can learn to accept listening to me,” Davis says, fully aware of inescapable judgment that is coming his way.

Former New York Yankees pitcher Hiroki Kuroda earned the win as the Hiroshima Carp defeated the Yomiuri Giants 6-4 on Saturday to capture its first Central League pennant in 25 years.
Kuroda (9-8) struck out four batters and gave up three runs on six hits over six innings at Tokyo Dome to help Hiroshima to its seventh Central League title in Japanese professional baseball.

Buehler, who had Tommy John surgery shortly after he was the 24th overall pick in 2015, made just his third appearance as a pro on Saturday. Buehler got the start for low Class A Great Lakes in its first-round Midwest League playoff series. Buehler pitched two scoreless innings as Great Lakes beat Bowling Green (Rays) 5-2 to clinch the series and move on to play West Michigan in the next round. That Buehler is pitching at all is success. The Dodgers were hoping he’d be ready by instructional league, so getting back on the mound now is a bonus for the former Vanderbilt starter.
