What the...?
Never in my life could I ever have expected a crowd of Dodger fans to out-root, out-cheer and simply overcome the hometown crowd at Yankee Stadium. As you may have heard, a group of over 1,300 loud Dodger fans, a contingent that came along with Dodgers fan group Pantone 294, overwhelmed Yamkee fans in their own home. Heck, they even performed their own "roll call" of Dodger players on the field (watch the NY commentators discuss it here). Billy Witz at the NY Times has a good rundown on the spectacle:
The longest-tenured Yankee, left fielder Brett Gardner, who was well within earshot of the Dodgers fans, said in reference to the crowd: “Even the Red Sox, they don’t have maybe as big a following or aren’t as rowdy. It’s a little bit different, but I thought it was a good atmosphere. If we’re going to play well down the stretch and get back into the postseason like we aspire to do, we’re going to have to play well in that atmosphere, whether it’s at the Stadium or on the road.”Best yet, the folks at Pantone 294 brought some luck to the Blue Crew. The Dodgers hammered out an impressive 8-2 victory behind an fantastic second career start by Jose De Leon. Via Doug Padilla at ESPN:

- There was a interesting note in a report by Adam McCalvy of MLB.com regarding the Brewers claiming Yasiel Puig recently and the ensuing talks that took place:
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports and MLB Network was first to report that the Brewers had claimed Puig on revocable trade waivers and engaged the Dodgers in trade talks. According to a source, one scenario would have netted the Brewers Puig and two prospects along with pitcher Brandon McCarthy, whose departing contract would have helped offset the Dodgers' luxury tax hit for adding Braun. The source said Braun remained at Miller Park with some teammates after the Brewers' Aug. 31 game against the Pirates while the Brewers and Dodgers continued talks up to 11:59 p.m. ET -- a minute before the Trade Deadline to acquire players and have them eligible for the postseason. In the end, they simply ran out of time.
- Via Matt DeVries at MiLB.com; "Whitecaps Respond, Force Decisive Game 3: Loons will be playing for first-ever trip to the MWL Championship." The Dodgers Single-A club, the Great Lakes Loons, lost the second game of the three-game set against the West Michigan Whitecaps in the Midwest League Eastern Division Championship.
With the series now tied 1-1, the Loons and Whitecaps will meet in a winner-take-all contest Tuesday in West Michigan with the winner advancing to the MWL Championship series. It would be the first appearance for the Loons in franchise history, while the Whitecaps are the defending Midwest League champions beating the Cedar Rapids Kernels in 2015. Awaiting the winner from the East are the Clinton LumberKings, who clinched the Western Division Championship on Monday night.
- I thought I would let you know that Import Dragon Figures will soon be releasing their 2016 six-inch figurines to the collecting public later this week. Go here to see who will be available. Unfortunately, there is not a Dodger in sight. I had originally thought they would be releasing a Corey Seager figurine, but that does not appear to be the case.
- Awesome! Via Adrienne Lafrance at The Atlantic; "A Peek at Babe Ruth’s Private Scrapbooks: Twenty-five volumes from the National Baseball Hall of Fame's collection have been digitized for the first time.
- Via Loyd Brumfield at The Dallas Morning News; "Bazooka bubble gum sticks to its word, awards prize for contest entry submitted 59 years late." Long story, short, for fun a collector decided to submit a contest card from 1957 (seeing that it had no expiration date) and got a prize from Topps.
Day noticed something in the fine print: No year was given to enter the contest.
"I was struck by the fact it didn't have a year listed on the card," he said. "It was a simpler time. You didn't need a team of lawyers to do everything back then."
So Day entered the contest and — 59 years after it first opened to contestants — he won it.
