Rich Hill finally gets his own Topps Now Baseball card. Unfortunately, it isn't as grand as it could have been. As you know, Rich Hill was in the midst of throwing a perfect game yesterday when he was, to the surprise of many, pulled after the seventh inning with a 5-0 lead over the Marlins. As indicated on the front of the card, this marks the "Longest Perfect-Game Bid By Pitcher Removed From A Game Since 1900."
Not exactly something you want to be remembered for, eh?
The reverse says the following:
Rich Hill tossed seven perfect frames vs. the Miami Marlins before being pulled after 89 pitchers. The seven-inning perfect-game bid marks the longest one in which a pitcher was relieved since 1900. Hill, who struck out 9 batters along the way, lowered his season ERA to a phenomenal 1.80. The Los Angeles Dodgers likely removed Hill as a precaution due to recurring blister woes he's experienced throughout 2016. After being removed, the Dodgers allowed two hits before closing out the 5-0 win.Dodgers manager Dave Roberts had this to say about it, via Doug Padilla at ESPN:
"He said the blister wasn't affecting him; that's true," Roberts said. "Obviously, he was throwing the ball well. But in talking to the trainer, when you start looking at the blister from a medical viewpoint and you start seeing some tenderness -- as the trainer has gotten familiar with Rich's blister -- those are symptoms and signs that the next step is a blister that could present itself."He then joked when he found out about the unusual record that is the subject of the Topps Now card:
"Wow, that's great," Roberts said with a smirk. "That's not what I envisioned my first year as manager, so thanks for that one."Go here to check it out and order.
