Blog Kiosk: 10/10/2016 - Dodgers Links - Some Odds and Ends

Corey Seager is hitting bombs.  Per AJ Cassavell at MLB.com:
Despite the loss, Seager etched his name in postseason lore with his second first-inning home run in as many games. His moonshot off Max Scherzer on Friday made Seager the youngest player in Dodgers history to hit a home run in the postseason -- and it didn't take long for him to earn the No. 2 spot on that list as well.

"Whatever it is, it's something that you're looking for early," Seager said when asked about his fast starts. "Unfortunately, today, it didn't work out."

  • This Day in Dodgers History:  In 1978 the Dodgers retired the number of Dodger player/coach Jim Gilliam -- 19.  He had died just two days before from an cerebral hemorrhage.  The ceremony preceeded Game 1 of the World Series against the Yankees.

“So normally, I would get what you would consider a normal pitcher’s blister in spring training and then that calluses over and you’re good to go for most of the year. Sometimes it will pop will back up.”

As Hill continued to be dogged by the blisters, he tested multiple treatments, no matter how odd. “I mean, you know, you pee on it. You might as well try it, right,” he said.
Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw threw an abbreviated bullpen session Sunday morning at Nationals Park that would allow him to start Game 4 of the National League Division Series at Dodger Stadium on short rest.

The Dodgers have announced 20-year-old rookie Julio Urias as the probable starter for the game, but they would likely switch to Kershaw if they trail the best-of-five series, 2-1, and face elimination.
"Obviously, it's Sandy Koufax, but another thing is that he's a genuinely nice guy," said Culberson. "For someone of his stature and what he's done in the game, to come up to you like you're his best friend, it's pretty special. When Sandy Koufax walks into the clubhouse, you stop. It's a different feeling when he's there."
