A couple weeks back I shared some unique photos featuring the progress of the demolition of a ballpark called Washington Park II -- the former home of the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1898-1912 (link here). These date to 1926 and were taken by a local photographer for the Brooklyn Edison Company. As you may know, Con Edison of New York (no doubt an offspring of the Brooklyn Edison Company) currently sits on the land this stadium once stood.
Now, I've run into even more photos of the demolition and this time we get a close-up look at the grandstands that once housed thousands of hollering fans. They are available through eBay (links here, here, here, here, here and here). Click on any pic to embiggen.

- This Day in Dodgers History: In 1962 Dodger Hall of Famer Don Drysdale is named the NL Cy Young Award winner. He went 25-9 with an 2.83 ERA, 19 complete games and 232 strike outs. In 1988 Dodgers outfielder and legend Kirk Gibson was named the NL MVP. BTW, he is the first MVP to not have been selected for the All-Star Game in the same season.
- Per Jeff Topps at MLB Trade Rumors; "Yasiel Puig Will Not Opt Into Arbitration." Considering how difficult the past few years have been this shouldn't be a surprise.
- As you surely know by now, Corey Seager was named the unanimous choice for "Rookie of the Year" yesterday afternoon. Per Ken Gurnick at MLB.com:
"I'm excited and overwhelmed right now," Seager said. "It's a distinguished award. Congratulations to the other two, to Trea and Kenta. It's awesome to be nominated, really exciting to win. I don't have the words for it, really."

Excited to play against (and, more likely, with) the pitcher-slash-slugger, Gonzalez signed his Team Mexico jersey for the pitcher after the two squared off in a friendly before the 2017 World Baseball Classic with the message "Looking forward to seeing you in the States."

- Via Ken Gurnick at MLB.com; "Amid roster roulette, Roberts kept Dodgers right."
"I was given the autonomy, the flexibility to really stay micro-focused with our guys," Roberts said. "I think Andrew [Friedman, president of baseball operations] and his guys took care about things out of my control. It allowed me to stay focused on the day to day. I managed the 'pen, the pitching staff, the players that came through, I don't know how many different names came through the clubhouse.
"But I stayed focused on the day to day and not get ahead of myself. Once you get ahead too far, the distractions, the noise, the pressure, the stress, all come into play. Giving me that empowerment on the day-to-day made things a lot easier for me and the coaches."
- Per Matthew Moreno at Dodger Blue; "Andrew Friedman: Dodgers Respecting Free-Agency Process For Kenley Jansen, Justin Turner."
“Both guys have been a big part of our past success and we hope they’re be a big part of our future success,” Dodgers president of baseball operations Friedman said during an appearance on MLB Network’s “High Heat” on Monday.
“I have a tremendous amount of respect for both of them. They put themselves in position to go out and test the free agent market, so we’re trying to be respectful of that and allow them to do that. They have earned that right.”
