Clearly, in the photo above, Vin Scully is at a complete loss for words. He, no doubt, understands the gravity of the honor that is being bestowed on him, and takes very seriously the solemn recognition it represents. I am sure, as he stood next to the President awaiting the official presentation of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, he is truly realizing the impact his little job as "an old broadcaster" has had on not only Baseball fans in Southern California but to Americans throughout the country.

- It is with sadness that I announce the death of Dodger great Ralph Branca. Via Jon Weisman at Dodger Insider; "Ralph Branca passes away at 90." Per Marty Noble at MLB.com:
Baseball has lost one of the game's enduring gentlemen, who lived for more than 60 years with a most conspicuous yet somewhat unwarranted smudge on his pitching reputation. Ralph Branca, the losing pitcher in one of baseball's most famous games, is dead at age 90. The game -- no, American society -- is diminished by the loss of a man of such integrity, heart and strength. We haven't often seen the likes of Branca since the day that labeled but didn't change him, nor are we likely to see many of his kind again.
- Mike Rosenbaum at MLB.com, makes note of the prospects who impressed in this year's Fall League as MLBPipeline.com's All-AFL Team, and it includes Dodgers prospect Cody Bellinger:
Bellinger, 21, missed the first month of the 2016 season but had a solid year at Double-A Tulsa, hitting .263 with 23 homers and 65 RBIs before an impressive late-season showing in Triple-A. The No. 31 overall prospect was a clear standout in the AFL, where he hit .314 with three homers in 20 games for Glendale. Bellinger also paced the circuit in doubles (eight) and finished third in RBIs (17) and OPS (.981).

The owners will consider voting to lock out the players if the two sides cannot reach a new collective-bargaining agreement by the time the current deal expires on Dec. 1, according to sources with knowledge of the discussions.
A lockout would put baseball’s business on hold, delaying free-agent signings and trades until a new agreement is reached. The winter meetings, a joint venture between the majors and minors scheduled to take place from Dec. 4 to 8 near Washington D.C., might still transpire, but without the usual frenzy of major-league activity.
