  • This Day in Dodgers History:  In 1968 Dodgers GM Al Campanis traded his own son, Jim Campanis, to the KC Royals.  In 1987 the Dodgers signed free agent outfielder Mike Davis to a contract.  He would eventually become a hero for taking a walk and stealing a base ahead of World Series hero Kirk Gibson.  In 2004 the Dodgers signed free agent second baseman Jeff Kent to a three year $21 million contract.  In 2009 the Dodgers trade Juan Pierre to the White Sox for two players to be named later - John Ely and Jon Link.

  • David Hood at True Blue LA takes a closer look at, Dodgers 2017 top prospects: No. 20, Yusniel Diaz."
In many ways, Diaz is a similar prospect to Alex Verdugo, in that his hit tool outranks his power, and his defensive prowess is not born from blinding speed or physicality. From an offensive standpoint, Diaz has not made contact at the impressive rate that Verdugo has, but his hit tool is above average. Diaz has tremendous bat speed and and a smooth level swing that keeps the barrel in the hitting zone for a long time. Diaz will chase on occasion and his swing can get long, but his approach is promising for a teenager in the California League.
What was it like being drafted in the first round and then immediately being shut down for over a year?

“I think it’s more of a mental challenge than it is physical,” Buehler said. “All the stuff is just your normal lifting and just the extra arm stuff to try and get it back. And then you’ve got to build up to throwing and go through spring training and not be able to do much. You’ve got all of these guys you know about and heard about and they’re going and leaving [spring training while you stay behind], that’s the toughest part.”
‘‘Seriously?! Had to wear a Hooters outfit going through customs in Toronto and wore it proudly (because) I was in the Show,’’ former Red Sox first baseman Kevin Youkilis wrote before deleting the tweet, adding ‘‘Way more important topics and problems in the world that need attention.’’

Dodgers pitcher Ross Stripling tweeted a photo of himself and teammates sporting cheerleading uniforms, saying, ‘‘honored to be one of the last players ever to be dressed up as a woman.’’
  • SABR now has a Baseball Card Committee and a blog.  Check it out hererzsanzone at SABRBaseballCards writes about, "1953 Topps and Race Relations," and wonders aloud how much race relations in the 50's (in particular) played into fans collector decisions.
  • First it was the Dodgers.  Now it's the Kings.  Per Tricia Friedman at the LA Kings; "The NHL And Kings Unveil their Rose Parade Float."  Sitting on the float will be Luc Robitaille, Kings broadcaster Bob Miller, mascot Bailey and a bunch of youth hockey players, including members of the Junior Kings program, wearing jerseys for all 30 NHL clubs.
"The NHL Centennial float in the 2017 Rose Parade sits at the center of an exciting 48 hours of New Year's celebrations," said Brian Jennings, NHL Executive Vice President of & Chief Brand Officer. "From the 2017 Scotiabank NHL Centennial Classic™ in Toronto to the 2017 Rose Parade in Pasadena to the 2017 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic® in St. Louis, the NHL will make history in the way it celebrates its 100 year history this New Year's."
