2016 Topps Stadium Club - All the Dodgers Base Cards

Wow!

Topps officially released their 2016 Stadium Club Baseball card set today, and it's as magnificent as ever.  It's filled with fantastic photography that will make you smile and gaze in amazement.  This set is just beautiful.

Featured below are all of the Dodgers base cards.  Go here for a complete checklist.  Next week I should have photos of the inserts and variations that are available.

If I had to chose a favorite Dodger card from this set I would have to pick Joc Pederson.  He is posed in a very typical Baseball manner, but sports a mean scowl.  It makes me laugh in fear.

Brooklyn Dodger Doings - Vintage 1938 Newsletter - Issue #2

A couple of days ago I shared pics of an Brooklyn Dodgers 1938 newsletter, issue #7, that is on auction (link here) called "Brooklyn Dodger Doings."  As you may know, the Dodgers started sending newsletters to fans in 1938, and the practice continued for many decades.  These newsletters are typically four pages and consist of the kind of news you can easily find online today.  Fortunately, I have recently been communicating with another Dodgers collector named Doug who has been kind enough to pass along scans of several other Dodger Doings issues to share with you.   

Featured here is the first of many issues that I will be posting up.  It is issue #2 from 1938 - the second newsletter ever released by the franchise.  Click on any pic to embiggen. 

Vintage Dodger Stadium Collectibles at Hake's Auction

This is the kind of stuff I love to chase after.  These aren't Baseball cards or game-used apparel.  Instead, all of the items from the Hake's auction that I highlight below are Dodgers-related memorabilia that were originally purchased by fans to commemorate the first day of the season.

Kenta Maeda killed it yesterday.  In six innings of work he scattered three hits and gave up the Brewers lone run of the day to lead the Dodgers to a victory over Milwaukee, 8-1.  Per Ken Gurnick and Adam McCalvy at MLB.com:

"Kenta had his breaking ball working, he threw good changeups," said manager Dave Roberts. "For him to give us six innings [was] huge for the 'pen."

No doubt he was aware what he needed to do.  Via Doug Padilla at ESPN:

“It hurts to lose Kershaw,” Maeda said afterward through an interpreter. “But my job is to throw as many innings as possible regardless and help the team win.”

BTW, Corey Seager continues to rake.  He slammed his 17th home run of the season (a two-run shot), walked and singled to extend his hitting streak to thirteen games.  Watch him chat about his day with Alanna Rizzo here.

• This Day in Dodger History:  In 1948 Roy Campanella made his Major League debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers.  He caught Ralph Branca and hit a double and two singles.  In 2011 Dee Gordon completed a stolen base cycle.  During the seventh inning he reached base on a force out, stole second, then stole third, and finally swiped home with Casey Blake at the plate.  Gordon is the 40th Major Leaguer to accomplish this in the same frame.
