Blog Kiosk: 1/25/2017 - Dodgers Links - Some Odds and Ends

Yesterday afternoon Trayce Thompson hosted a bunch of kids and their families who are patients at Cedars-Sinai for a movie night at Dodger Stadium.  First, though, he spent some time showing the tykes the Dodgers clubhouse.

Day three of the Dodgers Love L.A. Community Tour is today and it's filled with plenty of appearances throughout LA.  First, Andre Ethier and Julio Urias will hold a clinic for more than 20 Special Olympics of Southern California athletes at the Dodgers Dreamfield at Baldwin Hills Recreation Center from 9:30 Am to 11:30 AM.  At 10:00 AM the Los Angeles City Council will formally recognize Dave Roberts as the 2016 NL "Manager of the Year" at City Hall.  At the same time, Adam Liberatore, Ron Cey, Al Ferrara and Dennis Powell will promote literacy at four different Los Angeles public libraries.  Finally, Ethier and Roberts will take part in a "Thank You Lunch" for the LAPD at the Northeast Community Police Station.

  • Happy Birthday, Ray Schmandt, Ed Head & Ed Goodson!
  • As you may recall, a Dodgers/Joc Pederson/Pet Family Photo Day was scheduled for this past Monday, but weather ruined that.  Now, it has been rescheduled for this coming Thursday, tomorrow, at 2:00 PM at the Silver Lake Dog Park, per a tweet by the Dodgers.

White may have some of the most electric stuff in the organization. His fastball reportedly touches the mid 90s, but what we can see on tape is a heavy pitch that comes in on a tough plane from his high three-quarters slot. He has excellent control of the pitch and will pound the zone with the offering.
"The target we're looking at is early March and I think it's realistic, but I have to pace myself," he said. "If I'm not 100 percent then, it's not necessarily a terrible thing. I feel like I have a lot to catch up on. I have to keep in mind the big picture with a season to play. I want all the at-bats I can get, but Day One Opening Day is the goal."
"Right now, I'd say I am in better shape than I normally would be at the start of spring training," Ryu told reporters at Incheon International Airport. "I threw four bullpen sessions a day while training in Japan. I have no pain at the moment."
The 28-year-old Eibner will add another right-handed bat to the Dodgers’ outfield mix. While he struggled at the plate in his big league debut this past season, hitting just .191/.266/.353 in 208 plate appearances. Eibner has a much stronger Triple-A track record and is considered an above-average defender that is capable of playing all three outfield positions. In parts of three seasons at the Triple-A level (979 plate appearances), Eibner is a .280/.356/.474 hitter. As a bonus, he has two minor league options remaining, so the Dodgers can stash Eibner in the minors as a depth piece if he doesn’t break camp with the Major League club.
  • If you're a hockey fan then this weekends NHL All-Star weekend in Los Angeles is right down your alley.  There is a "Fan Fair", starting tomorrow to Saturday, at the convention center that will include a small card show, autograph sessions, collecting-related activities and promotions at Upper Deck’s booth and a display of historic hockey memorabilia.  Go here for more information.  So far, Hall of Famers and Kings legends Luc Robitaille and Rogie Vachon are scheduled to sign autographs on Thursday; along with fellow Hall of Famers Bill Smith and Brad Park.
