Blog Kiosk: 1/30/2017 - Dodgers Links - Some Odds and Ends

This past Saturday was the Dodgers FanFest, and one of the special announcements made that afternoon was the naming of Corey Seager, the NL's "Rookie of the Year", as the cover-spokesman for RBI Baseball 2017.  Check out a screengrab from the presentation made on stage above.  You can watch it here.

BTW, I have a bunch pics I took at the FanFest and will be sharing them soon.  Below are more links to check out:
A team statement said Miller “is under the care of a team of specialized physicans and he is doing well and is in good spirits.”
  • Audio:  Dodgers GM Farhan Zaidi discusses the Logan Forsythe trade in an interview with Jim Memolo and Kevin Kennedy on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM (link here).
  • Via Yvonne Carrasco at Dodger Insider; "Dodgers to dedicate newly renovated Campo Las Palmas complex."
  • Per Eric Stephen at True Blue LA; "Ike Davis signed by Dodgers to minor league deal."  The first baseman's contract is said to be $1.25 million should he make the Major League roster.
  • Via Andy McCullough at the LA Times; "Dodgers pitcher Rich Hill goes by no-failure, no-progress credo."
“In a way, I’m a role model for failure,” Hill said. “My first suggestion for 2017 is to go out and fail — but fail at something you have passion for. I’m standing here today because I’ve failed more often than I’ve succeeded.

“Without struggle, there is no progress. Without failure there is no progress.”
  • Per Grant Brisbee at SB Nation; "What would the free agent stars of yesterday make today?: Would Fernando Valenzuela make $300 million as a free agent today? What about Tim Raines?"
Fernando Valenzuela:  Contract today?
Six straight All-Star Games. Four top-five Cy Young finishes, with one win. Heck, through the two Silver Sluggers and a Gold Glove on there, just because you can. This was one of baseball’s biggest stars, and he was so very young.

Ten years, $270 million, with an opt-out after year three. So it was basically a front-loaded three-year deal, because what were the chances going to be that he was going to opt out?

Would it have been worth it?
No. Oh, man, no.
"It was not good to experience going to Triple-A, but that was my fault, coming in late, not going to the meetings on time with my teammates and coaches, and that was the reason," Puig said. "And I am 100 percent [in agreement] with the situation when they sent me down."
Q: There’s an acclimation process with a double-play partner, whether you’re a shortstop or second baseman. How long is that acclimation process, usually, and how excited are you about the possibilities with Corey Seager?
A: I’ve watched him play and I’m a big fan. The acclimation process — I’ve played with quite a few shortstops, and it takes time. Some guys you just click (right away). Some guys it might take longer to feel out. I like working with a (new) guy up the middle in Spring Training every day. I just want to see his moves, how he moves left, how moves right, where his angles are with his arm, what he likes to do.
  • Via Ken Gurnick at MLB.com; "Bellinger 13th as LA puts 5 on Top 100 Prospects list."  Cody Bellinger is ranked at #13, pitcher Yadier Alvarez was at #49, outfielder Alex Verdugo is at #61, infielder Willie Calhoun at #82, and Walker Buehler is at #93.
  • This is the worst idea I've ever heard.  Tommy Hilfiger, fashion designer and a Dodger fan, was approached by TMZ and asked what changes, if any, he would make to the Dodger uniforms.  His answer scares me.
