Don Newcombe was a beast in 1955. He finished the Dodgers only championship season in Brooklyn by going 20-5 with 17 complete games, 143 strike outs and a league leading 1.113 WHIP. This, of course, would just be a precursor to what would happen the following year. In 1956 Newcombe would take home both the Cy Young and MVP awards -- a first in Baseball. In 1959 ever-popular Brooklyn Dodgers outfilder Zach Wheat is unanimously elected to the Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee. In 1976 East Lansing police arrest Dodgers reliever Mike Marshall for disobeying the orders set by the Michigan State University police prohibiting him from taking batting practice. MSU feared he would hit balls too far and injure students on an adjacent tennis court. Marshall protests that it is against his rights as an MSU instructor and files a lawsuit against the school.

LF: My wife and I had just closed on a farm in Tennessee. I had just left the property, and I got a call from the [Rays'] front office, and I could just tell that it was news that they didn’t want to tell me. I said, "You’re not trading me, are you?" And they said, "Yeah, we are." I was like, "OK, where are am I going?" And that’s how I found out.

Urias grew up around five minutes from the baseball academy -- which partnered with Major League Baseball last summer -- off of a couple of dirt roads in the small town of La Higuerita. He still lives there with his parents. Yes, he's become a local hero, but he's the same guy who signed with the Dodgers back in 2012. He drives a new but not flashy SUV and he wears almost no new jewelry. The pitcher has added on to his parents' house, extending the back patio, but mostly to make it the perfect spot to grill carne asada and host family birthday parties.
