This year is a special one for the Dodgers and its fans. For the first time in its history a statue will be erected at the stadium, and it will honor the great Jackie Robinson.
Sculpted by noted New York born artist Branley Cadet, the statue is made of bronze, sits on a granite base and stands approximately 9 feet tall. Furthermore, several notable Robinson quotes can be seen surrounding the statue along its base.
Fans in attendance for its unveiling on Jackie Robinson Day (April 15th) will not only have an opportunity to be the first fans to see it (on the reserve level), but will also receive a collectible Jackie Robinson replica statue figurine (the first 40,000 fans) when they enter the game.
For the first time we have an opportunity to check out the figurine, via the Dodgers twitter. You can see it in the photos above and below.
Per a Dodgers press release from 2015:
"We're thrilled that the Dodgers will honor Jack with the inaugural statue at Dodger Stadium," said Rachel Robinson, wife of Jackie Robinson and founder of the Jackie Robinson Foundation. "Branly Cadet's excitement for the project is heartening, and I look forward to the unveiling with great enthusiasm."Below is the Dodgers twitter that I used to grab the pics above.
"I am so honored to have the opportunity to design a sculpture memorial to Jackie Robinson for the Los Angeles Dodgers," said Cadet. "He is an icon of American history being celebrated by a legendary team in a grand city. I'm excited to create a design that is both befitting of this context and pays homage to his legacy as a sports hero and civic leader."
