Forgive all of the watermarks seen in the image above. Normally I wouldn't share a pic with so much in the way, but its subject is so awesome (and even timely) I just couldn't help it. Featured above is a Dodgers' call to prayer. Dated to 9/26/1946, this Acme press photograph shows a local Brooklyn pastor praying for victory. (eBay auction link) Per the descriptor on the reverse:
Rev. Benney S.C. Benson, Pastor of Brooklyn's Dutch Reformed Church, prays for the second day from the steps of Borough Hall for a Dodger victory in the National League pennant race. Rev. Benson, who received the grateful thanks of Dodger manager Leo Durocher, plans to go to Ebbets Field and give a second prayer before game time.I figured much of the Dodger faithful were participating in their own form of prayer during last nights game. After falling behind the Rockies by ten runs the Dodgers scraped, clawed and hustled their way back in it. By the ninth inning they loaded the bases with none out and the tying run at the plate. Unfortunately, their luck (or divine intervention) ran out. A double play, more or less, ended the Dodgers chances as they fell to Colorado by the score of 10-7. Below are more links to check out:

- Today's Baseball America prospect report makes note of Dodger first round pick Gavin Lux:
The Dodgers’ first-round pick last June had a career-high four hits Thursday for low Class A Great Lakes in a 7-3 win at Clinton (Mariners). Lux raised his average from .145 to .200 with his big night. Lux is the Dodgers’ No. 9 prospect and has a chance to be a solid hitter.

I guess it really comes down to what Jerry Seinfeld, a Giants fan, said a few years ago about team loyalty being a hard thing to justify: There are different guys on the roster every year, and teams even move from city to city, so when you get right down to it we’re really rooting for clothes, not people. You may love a player, but if he gets traded to another team and comes back to town you’ll boo him. It’s the same guy, he’s just wearing a different shirt. We’re screaming about laundry.
- Per Jerald Podair at Zocalo Public Square; "Democracy Strikes out at Dodger Stadium: The L.A. Ballpark Was a Diverse and Inclusive Public Space. Then Prices Took a Bad Hop."
Dodger Stadium was privately owned, which meant the O’Malleys bore all risks but reaped all rewards—which also let them play the long game. If say, a six-year-old could visit the stadium with his family and have an experience that would make him want to come back again, the seeds would be planted for a lifetime of patronage and profit. “Give me the child until he is seven and I will give you the man,” runs the famous Jesuit aphorism, and under O’Malley ownership from 1962 to 1997, the Dodger Stadium experience epitomized it.
