This is what I call, "leap frog".
Above is a International News press photo, dated May 23, 1957, featuring a funny looking leap by Brooklyn Dodger infielder Charlie Neal. (eBay auction link) Per the descriptor on the reverse:
"ONE DOWN, ONE TO GO----Brooklyn, New York... Elston Howard of the Yanks is shown as he was forced out at second base by Neal in the 4th inn. of tonight'd annual Mayors Trophy game between thr Dodgers and the Yanks. Neal flipped to Hodges at first to get Martin for the DP. Yanks came out on top 10-7".So, what is the Mayors Trophy game and why are the Dodgers playing the American League Yankees during the middle of the season? Well... the Mayors Trophy was an exhibition match between two of the three NY clubs (Yankees, Giants and Dodgers) in benefit of sandlot baseball in New York City -- with proceeds going to the city's Amateur Baseball Federation. In 1957 there was a home run derby before the game in front of 30,000 fans. Below are more links to check out:
- This Day in Dodgers History: In 1956 the Dodgers purchase starting pitcher Sal "the Barber" Maglie from the Indians. In 1998 the Dodgers trade beloved cathcer Mike Piazza (along with Todd Zeile) to the Marlins for Gary Sheffield, Bobby Bonilla, Charles Johnson, and Jim Eisenreich.

- Per Ken Gurnick at MLB.com; "Bellinger's mother thrilled with son's callup."
"It didn't hit me until on Twitter when SportsNetLA took footage of them stitching 'Bellinger' and '35' on the back of the jersey," she said. "I lost it, just started to cry. This is just incredible."
- Per Lance Pugmire at the LA Times; "Magic Johnson offers Dodger Stadium as venue for Canelo Alvarez-Gennady Golovkin fight."
De La Hoya, after a conversation with Johnson, Dodgers chief financial officer Tucker Kain and Lon Rosen, the team’s executive vice president of marketing and communications, said he’ll pursue fuller details on the proposal, but is impressed.
“I can’t reveal details, but Magic Johnson made a very nice offer. It’s a nice package I have to consider,” De La Hoya told the Los Angeles Times.
- Per Shelley Smith at ESPN; "Through breast cancer and baseball, a lasting friendship is formed."
Even though from vastly different backgrounds -- Ada was raised in Guatemala, Tanya in Los Angeles -- they became soulmates. Especially when they discovered each other's passion for the Los Angeles Dodgers.
"My mom had been a Dodger fan," Ada said. "I was 12 and living with my mother in Guatemala, and I fell asleep and Kirk Gibson hit the home run and my mother woke me up yelling, 'We won, we won!'"
For Tanya, it was listening to Vin Scully on the radio with her dad, who always wore his Dodgers jacket. And when she was undergoing chemotherapy, she craved Dodger dogs so much so that her boyfriend went to games just to keep her fed and happy.
- Per Andrew Wallenstein at Variety; "Concert Review: Dodger Stadium, Axl Rose, and Pink Put Billy Joel in an L.A. State of Mind."
“So this is where the Dodgers ended up?” he wondered aloud to the admiring crowd, who were treated to an aural tour that made stops at just about every album Joel ever made.
He went on to recall what it was like growing up in New York. Rooting for the then-Brooklyn Dodgers only to watch them head west, sending him a on search for another team for which to root (he claimed to have been both a Yankees and Mets fan at different times).
