Here's a great vintage pic, said to originally be a Sports magazine photo (eBay link), of an old codger having a laugh with a young hurler. Featured in the undated photo are Don Drysdale with Duke Snider.

- This Day in Dodgers History: In 1973 the famed Dodger infield of Steve Garvey, Davey Lopes, Bill Russell and Ron Cey play on the field for the first time. Ten days later they would be inserted into the starting lineup for the first time. In 1998 the very first triple play is executed at Dodger Stadium. It sequence is 1-6-4-5 in the fifth inning -- with men at 1st and 2nd, Darren Dreifort fields a sacrifice bunt attempt, throws to shortstop Jose Vizcaino at 2nd, who then throws to covering second baseman Eric Young at 1st, who then throws to Bobby Bonilla at 3rd to get the final out. See the GIF on right to see the play.

- Per Ellen Olivier and Chris Laird at the LA Times; "Dodgers Foundation gala hits a home run by raising $1.5 million."
- Per Eric Stephen at True Blue LA; "Brendon Davis added to Midwest League All-Star team." He will join teammates Dustin May and Keibert Ruiz.
- Wow. Per Cyd Zeigler at OutSports; "Dodgers sold nearly 7,000 Pride Night tickets, featured 7 gay couples on Kiss Cam: Rainbow Dodger logos were everywhere."
Per Lon Rosen: “People from across sports have asked us what has made our LGBT Night resonate and grow so much over the past five years and I think the answer is pretty simple. We practice what we preach….they aren’t just words when we say the Dodgers organization embraces diversity, inclusion and equality for ALL."
- Per Andy McCullough at the LA Times; "What's the matter with Logan Forsythe?"
“I don’t think Logan will ever make excuses, but that back foot that was hit and was fractured has affected him staying [balanced] on his back side,” Roberts said. “If you look at his hips, as he’s gathering [to hit], he can’t hold his position as much as he’d like.”
\
He continued, “But there’s also a component of him being too passive in the hitting zone. So that’s something our hitting guys have addressed. Trying to be a little extra aggressive on pitches in the strike zone.”
- I can't wait for this. Per Anita Busch at Deadline Hollywood; "O’Shea Jackson To Portray Baseball Player Dock Ellis In New Film From Cube Vision, David Permut." BTW, yesterday was the 47th anniversary of Ellis' infamous LSD-infused no-hitter.
“Part of Cube Vision’s mission is to bring compelling, provocative and timely stories to life,” said Kwatinetz. “With Dock, we feel that now is the right time to tell Dock Ellis’ complex, but powerful, true story and couldn’t be happier to partner with David Permut, whose incredible body of work speaks for itself.”
- I'm gonna delve a bit into politics and cards. One of the most striking issues this year has been Topps online exclusive Garbage Pail Kids weekly sets focused on the craziness and idiocy of today's political world, and as you can imagine many of the card focus on Donald Trump. The cards are often pointed, hilarious and timely, and worth a look if you prefer to laugh rather than cry over the doings in Washington. Go here to check them out. To the right is one of the cards available now featuring Trump with former FBI chief Comey.
- This next link is for aspiring sports agents. Famed agent Leigh Steinberg -- the inspiration behind the movie Jerry Maguire -- is hosting their Agent Academy in July. Go here for information.
Version 2.0 expands the academy into a two day event and drills deep into two of the most important skills that any sports agent must possess: building a client base and negotiating. Chris Cabbott, NFLPA Agent and Steinberg Sports & Entertainment COO is happy that so many attendees have taken advantage of the Agent Academy that he and Leigh host. “We have hired some Agent Academy attendees as interns and some served as volunteers at Leigh’s annual Super Bowl Party” said Cabbott.
