The Dodgers don't need no stinkin' rain delay!
With a 9-1 lead at the top of the eighth inning the game got delayed as a massive downpour suddenly overtook Chicago. It was as if someone turned on the shower as some unsuspecting drunk slept it off in the tub. Nevertheless, it was likely a welcome respite -- especially for ice cream loving rookie Cody Bellinger (as evidenced in the photo on the right). He decided to enjoy a cone and a cup-o'-noodles in the clubhouse before the game got called in the Dodgers favor.
The win extends their winning streak to 11 games. Per Ken Gurnick and Fabian Ardaya at MLB.com:
"The confidence we have in our group that we're going to win a game, is real," said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. "The talent in the room, the confidence we have, is real. Now it's go out and do it. You can talk about it, but you have to go out and do it and, so, we're doing it."Photo above via @Dodgers on twitter. Bellinger photo on right also via the @Dodgers on twitter. In 1925 future Hall of Famer and Brooklyn Dodger pitcher Dazzy Vance struck out 17 Cubs to defeat Chicago 4-3 in 10 innings. In 1970 Dodger hurler Bill Singer no hit the Phillies at Dodger Stadium, 5-0. Singer struck out ten, walked none and committed two errors on the field.

There’s a very positive feeling in the clubhouse and around the team right now. It’s definitely the most fun I’ve had in my career.

- I'm not a huge fan of trade rumors, but this one article by Jerry Crasnick at ESPN passes along some good notes: "What are the Dodgers and Astros looking to do at the deadline?"
"I think all the work Andrew did was to put himself in a position where he didn't need to be desperate in July,'' said an American League front-office man. "They have a really deep team, so they don't necessarily need more depth. They need impact.''...
The Dodgers have told potential trade partners they're extremely hesitant to part with minor league outfielder Alex Verdugo and pitchers Walker Buehler and Yadier Alvarez.
- Per Harold Uhlman at Think Blue LA; "Dodgers first rounder Jeren Kendall is ‘on go’" Jeren had a fantastic debut with Ogden. He went 3-for-3 with two RBI's, a stolen base and two runs scored.
Vanderbilt Commodores coach Tim Corbin instills an “on-go” mentality to which Kendall completely bought into and he applies it to all phases of his game. “Everybody should be running, everybody should be on go. It doesn’t matter where you hit in the lineup or what kind of bat you have,” he added. “We all think you should do the simple things of the game. Legs and speed is the one thing that doesn’t slump in this game, which is nice. So, we all try to emulate that.”
