Blog Kiosk: 7/25/2017 - Dodgers Links - Some Odds and Ends

This team is ridiculous. After falling behind in the late innings of last nights game the Dodgers barreled back to steal another win. Unsurprisingly, it was Cody Bellinger who provided the knock out punch with a three-run homer in the eighth inning. Per Rhett Bollinger and Ken Gurnick at MLB.com:
"When we're behind, we don't quit, we find a way to win and play to the last out," said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. "As long as there's outs on the board, we believe we can win. It was a team win."
I'm starting to believe... Like, really believe...

Unfortunately, the Dodgers lost to Cincinnati, 2-1. In 2006 the Dodgers received starting pitcher Elmer Dessens from the Royals for Odalis Perez and a couple minor leaguers.

  • Don't worry. Everything is fine. One of the hallmarks of this club is that their finances allows them to be overly-cautious when it come to a situation like Kershaw's. It's a unique competitive advantage. Per Rowan Kavner at Dodger Insider; "Lower back strain, but no disk issue, for Kershaw."
Manager Dave Roberts said Kershaw’s disk was “intact” and “looks good,” and the ace is instead dealing with a lower back strain. While Roberts was reluctant to offer a specific timetable for return, the Dodger manager is confident Kershaw will be back on the mound before season’s end.
“If you look at the calendar and you’re talking about a strain, him making an impact on our club this year is a very safe bet,” said Roberts, who added that, relative to the scan from last year, Kershaw’s in a much better spot.
We are likely looking at 4 to 6 weeks.
SCD: The forgers produced tens of thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands of autograph fakes. The FBI confiscated some but clearly many are still out there. Is there a solution for getting rid of all the Greg Marino and other fakes that still exist in the marketplace today?
Fitzsimmons: The forgers absolutely produced hundreds of thousands of forgeries; we confiscated approximately 100,000 alone in the nearly 100 searches we did over the years. Unfortunately there are still a lot out there and items are still being produced by other forgers. The celebrity world is really bad, because they mostly do not do contract signings that are securely tracked. Vintage sports autographs that predate secure signings are also a problem. The best safeguard is to establish a documented chain of custody and demand that as a buyer.
