Blog Kiosk: 7/27/2017 - Dodgers Links - Some Odds and Ends

I've seen numerous captions to photos similar to the one above; including "Hail Orange Jesus", but I prefer using "The Orange Justinian".

Now, hear me out. It's like mixing Orange Julius (one of my favorite all-time mall drinks) with the Byzantine emperor Justinian the Great (known for trying to revive and unite an aging empire and setting up a basis of laws still relevant today).

Okay, so that's a stretch and a bit dumb. But, do you know what isn't dumb? Hear these words from the man who has been an important leader for the club, via Rowan Kavner at Dodger Insider:
“We just don’t go away,” Turner said, drenched in Gatorade. “It doesn’t matter how big a hole we get in.”
Those are definitely the words that we of the Dodgers Empire can live by.

  • This Day in Dodgers HistoryIn 1918 Robins (Dodgers) starter Harry Heitman, in his major league debut, gave up four consecutive hits (all of whom eventually scored) and is then pulled for a reliever. He would never pitch in the majors again -- effectively ending his career with a career ERA of infinity.

  • ICYMI: the adorable Kershaw kids came out to the mound yesterday evening to throw out the first pitch, via a tweet by the Dodgers:
  • Per Joshua Thornton at MLB.com; "No timeline determined for Kershaw's return: Lefty says lower-back pain not as bad as injury in 2016."
"Last year I couldn't sit," Kershaw said on Wednesday. "Couldn't really bend in any way. This one isn't near [as bad] in any way. Just trying to play that balance of wanting to do a lot, but having to make sure not to do it worse before it heals, so that's where we're at."
  • Baseball America's most recent prospect report makes note of Dodger hurler Walker Buehler:
The Dodgers’ top prospect had a better time of it in his second Triple-A start than his first. Buehler allowed just one hit in five innings and struck out nine in Triple-A Oklahoma City's 8-7 victory over Reno (Diamondbacks). Buehler retired 13 of the final 14 batters. Overall at three levels, Buehler is 2-3, 3.33 with 100 strikeouts in 70.1 innings.
