Let's accentuate the positive by celebrating Cody Bellinger's ninth inning home run during the Dodgers 6-4 loss to the Padres last night. The solo shot was his 36th of the season, and it surpassed Mike Piazza's franchise record for home runs by a Dodger rookie. Per Cary Osborne at Dodger Insider:
“To now pass (Piazza), it feels pretty special,” Bellinger told SportsNet LA’s Alanna Rizzo. “It’s a team game. Hopefully we can get out of this and start winning some games again.”Photo above of Cody Bellinger via @DodgerInsider on twitter. Below are more links to check out:
- This Day in Dodgers History: In 1924 the Brooklyn Robins (Dodgers) won both ends of a doubleheader against the Boston Braves -- sweeping their fourth doubleheader in four consecutive days. From September 1st to 4th they beat the Phillies twice and the Braves six times. In 1966 the Dodgers become the first team to draw two million fans at home and on the road when they defeated the Reds at Crosley Fields in front of 18,670 patrons, 8-6. In 1969 Willis Davis' Dodger hitting streak comes to an end at 31 consecutive games -- setting a franchise record. It came at the hands of the Padres in San Diego.

“I always tell the younger players, stay within yourself,” said Garvey, who played on teams that went 6-0 in division and championship series matchups. “Play the way you’ve been playing. You don’t have to turn it up a notch. There’s nothing to turn up.“Just do what the situation dictates. Run 90 feet as fast as you can, dive for balls, hit the cutoff man, throw strikes and you should be there at the end. The ink’s dried. You don’t have to do too much differently.”

Catalan said that he was at a Los Angeles Dodgers game at the time of the drive-by shooting. Although he presented ticket stubs, it wasn't enough. Catalan refused to take a lie detector test and a description of the shooter by an eyewitness didn't really match. He needed to find a way to prove he was at the game.
- This mornings Baseball America Prospect Report makes note of Dodger farmhand DJ Peters:
Peters homered for the third straight game, giving him 27, as high Class A Rancho Cucamonga fell to Lake Elsinore (Padres) 11-4. Peters is third in the California League in homers, trailing teammate Ibandel Isabel (28) and Seth Brown of Stockton (Athletics), who has 29.
