Blog Kiosk: 100/26/2017 - Dodgers Links - Nobody Said it was Going to be Easy

Although we didn't come away with a victory last night, I am more certain than ever that THIS TEAM does not know how to give up. These guys battle -- always -- even after falling behind three times they still found the gumption to fight back. Sure, things didn't work out as planned, but that's okay. If there's one thing this game teaches it's perseverance, and THIS TEAM has got that. Per Ken Gurnick at MLB.com:
"I'm going to get my shot at them. When I get my shot, I'm going to help my team win," Jansen said after the Astros beat the Dodgers on Wednesday night in Game 2 of the World Series presented by YouTube TV, 7-6, in what is shaping up to be a true Fall Classic. "I'll be back for Game 3. The team will give me a shot again, my guys will pick me up again."

  • This Day in Dodgers HistoryIn 1950 Walter O'Malley became the ninth president and chief stockholder in the Dodgers franchise.  Following the death of team owner John L. Smith (who owned one-quarter of the club) O'Malley navigated a deal where he bought Branch Rickey's share of the club and essentially became a trustee over the Smith family portion to take over majority control.

He has been attending therapy after breaking his hip last month in a fall at his Fresno home.
An injury like this would derail most people's plans.
But not Petersen's.
His motivation?
"The Dodgers game. And I'm going to it. Period," he says.

  • This is interesting. Per Anson Whaley at Sports Collectors Daily; "In Danger? Honus Wagner Fears for His Life in 1910 Notebook Entry."
Among the items in the current Robert Edward Auctions catalog are two personal notebooks kept by Honus Wagner.  That would be enough to draw the interest of most fans of baseball history but what’s inside one of them is a fascinating and cryptic reference to fears for his life–and an informal will.
  • Per ESPN; "Dodgers' Adrian Gonzalez on field for batting practice before Game 2."
On Wednesday, Gonzalez told the Los Angeles Times he had asked the Dodgers for permission to travel to Italy to help his wife and two daughters move. He was there for just over a week and returned to Los Angeles on Monday.
"Coming back, I was having reservations about coming," Gonzalez told the Times before the Astros tied the World Series at 1-1 with an 11-inning victory over the Dodgers. "But then, obviously, it's the World Series, and talking to Justin [Turner] and talking to [Yasiel] Puig, they were like, 'We want you to be here.'"
