Blog Kiosk: 12/1/2017 - Dodgers Links - Some Odds and Ends

I absolutely love this photo. Per the descriptor on the reverse:
So you think the Dodgers might have some pennant jitters? Well, you couldn't tell by the looks of this carefree group of Sandy Koufax (l), Maury Wills (r) and Don Drysdale (shirtless background) tossing a football around a hallway outside the Dodger locker room before their game with the Cardinals here 9/26/1966. Wet weather prevented batting and infield practice before the game, but this trio of Dodger aces showed their unconcern by finding a football and throwing a few passes to each other.
You can check out the eBay listing for this vintage 1966 UPI Press Photo here. Below are more links to check:

  • This weeks 2017 Topps Throwback Thursday set makes note of six memorable moments from 2017; including Cody Bellinger's National League record-breaking 39th home run as a rookie. See that card on the right. Go here to check it out and order.
  • I love that vintage and once unknown Baseball memorabilia continue to pop up out of nowhere. Per David Seiderman at Forbes; "Epic Baseball Autographs Found In Dilapidated Building In Upstate NY."
In the mid-1990s the contractor and his crew were hired to replace wooden floors ravaged by time and termites in a vacant crumbling red brick building in upstate New York. The building manager told him to toss everything he saw.
The contractor decided to keep two boxes from one messy room.  Back then, at the dawn of the baseball memorabilia industry, values were not nearly as high as today. The contractor stored the boxes in his home and forgot about them. Earlier this year he Googled the names on the documents and figured he might have something special.

  • It appears that the Dodgers and Levy will continue with their partnership at Dodger Stadium. As you know, Levy began providing food services in 2000 and expanded their work to include the entire stadium in 2005. Per a Dodger press release:
“Working with Levy over the past 17 years, we’ve built on our legacy and firmly established Dodger Stadium as one of the finest fan experience venues in all of professional sports,” said Stan Kasten, Dodger President & CEO. “Levy’s unique experience elevating the country’s iconic venues and events makes them an ideal partner as we look to the future and raise the bar together in providing our fans with the finest experience and choices at Dodger Stadium.”
