Welcome to the Blue, Fabio Castillo!

Another one of the new faces to arrive in Dodger Blue over the Labor Day Weekend holiday is the wonderfully named Fabio Castillo. He is a right-handed pitcher from Samana, Dominican Republic who has both started and relieved at Tulsa and Oklahoma City this season. Per a Dodgers press release:

Castillo, 28, will make his first career appearance on a Major League roster after going 4-8 with one save and posting a 4.04 ERA (41 ER/91.1 IP) in 25 combined games (16 starts) with Triple-A Oklahoma City and Double-A Tulsa. Castillo, who had his contract selected on June 8, has spent the majority of the season with Oklahoma City appearing in 22 games (16 starts) and going 4-8 with a 4.27 ERA, while striking out 85 batters against 31 walks in 84.1 innings.

Welcome to the Blue, Wilmer Font!

Now that September is here a bunch of new faces are turning up in Dodger Blue. One of whom arrived over the weekend. His name is Wilmer Font, and he had been one of the Pacific Coast League's best pitchers.

2017 Topps Now -- #547 -- Kershaw's Scoreless Return

Here is a Topps Now card released this past Saturday that I just plain didn't see, so I was unable to highlight it over the weekend. Which it too bad, since Clayton Kershaw's performance in San Diego on Friday was the only good think about the long holiday weekend.

Rich Hill was very good last night. Unfortunately, the relievers who followed were not. Heck, they were terrible. Hill, for his part, went a strong six innings, and only erred when he gave up a single in the fourth and a homer soon after to JD Martinez. That was the only bit of scoring against Hill. Then four relievers came in a proceeded to yield 11 runs on 12 hits (five of which were home runs) in three innings. Per Joshua Thornton at MLB.com:

The Dodgers aren't ready to hit the panic button despite this recent slide and don't plan on changing any of their normal routines going forward. Even with Monday's blowout loss, Roberts sees a shift coming and it starts with the performance Hill put on Monday. 

"You win and go deep in the postseason with starting pitching in my opinion," Roberts said. "To have Rich [Hill] reset our starters and have an outing like this tonight, I think that's a good sign for all of us. We expect [Hyun-Jin] Ryu to do the same thing tomorrow."

• This Day in Dodgers History: In 1908 Brooklyn Superbas (Dodgers) hurler Nap Rucker pitched a no-hitter against the Boston Doves (Braves). He struck out 14 and walked none en route to a 6-0 victory. In 1955 Don Newcombe hit his seventh home run of the season to establish a National League record for home runs by a pitcher in a season. It was a three-run jack in the fourth inning to give the Dodgers a 4-1 lead. Newk would eventually throw a complete game to win his 20th game of the season, 11-4.
