Blog Kiosk: 1/3/2018 - Dodgers Links - Some Odds and Ends

Here's a fun, dated Apr 6, 1943, International News press photo featuring Brooklyn Dodger first baseman Dolph Camilli getting all gussied-up. A couple weeks prior to the start of the season, Camilli along with Leo DurocherArky Vaughan, Mickey Owen, Bobo Newsom, and Billy Herman played parts in a movie called "Whistling in Brooklyn". There was even a short appearance made by Dodgers super-fan Hilda Chester.

  • This Day in Dodgers HistoryIn 2005 the trade that sends outfielder Shawn Green from the Dodgers to the Diamondbacks and includes $8 million changing hands is approved by the Commissioner of baseball, Bud Selig. The trade would officially consummated eight days later. In 2006 the Dodgers signed free agent starting pitcher Brett Tomko to a two year/$8.7 million contract.

  • As I'm sure you've heard bu now, the Dodgers have hired former Cubs pitcher Mark Prior as their bullpen coach, via Tim Brown at Yahoo Sports. Stay tuned for some fantasy cards in his honor later this afternoon.
Prior, 37, retired from pitching in 2013. He was then hired by his hometown San Diego Padres, working as the club’s minor-league pitching coordinator for the past three years, where he frequently was praised for his work ethic and insights.
The Dodgers could groom Prior to become their pitching coach when Rick Honeycutt, 63, retires. The 2018 season will be Honeycutt’s 13th in the role. Only Don Cooper (Chicago White Sox) and Darren Balsley (Padres) are longer tenured in the position for one team. Speculation held that Honeycutt might move into a front office role after 2017.
  • Yeah... This is worth your time to check out. Per Chris Cwik at Big League Stew; "Here are the 150 nastiest pitches from the 2017 MLB season."
  • This has been making the rounds in Dodgers-related social media. Check out Kenta Maeda wallop a monster home run in the video below, via Maeda on Instagram. I'm not exactly sure where this is from, but it appears to be a Japanese game show centered around Baseball.
