Blog Kiosk: 2/2/2018 - Dodgers Links - Some Odds and Ends

Here's a look at Dodger veteran Pee Wee Reese on Camera Day at the LA Coliseum in April 1959 that is currently available at RMY Auction (auction link).

As nice as the above press photo is I think the photos being taken by those fans would be even cooler to see.

Below are more links to check out:
"I believe it's a very difficult thing to do. Physically, it's going to be a very tough thing to do, especially since he'll be doing hitting as well as pitching. He'll have to adjust as a pitcher and to a new schedule that is very different than in Japan. From a Japanese fan's point of view, people would love to see his two-way ability."
  • Per Shane Tourtellotte  at The Hardball Times; "Matching Jackie." Shane tries to figure out which current ballplayer is most like Jackie on the diamond, and the result is current Dodger third baseman Justin Turner.
Justin Turner may come the closest as a player by my measure, but it is in some ways an unreasonable comparison. Robinson’s skills as a baseball player were indeed a great and rare combination; that those skills inhabited such a great and rare person is something of a marvel. My first sentence was no lie: Jackie Robinson is unique.
Collins was one of five Oklahoma softballers to receive the Michelle Smith Outstanding Student Athlete Award during the Warren Spahn Awards Gala at Oklahoma City Golf & Country Club.
At the same event, Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles Dodgers was presented the Warren Spahn Award as the best left-handed pitcher in major league baseball. Kershaw, a three-time National League Cy Young Award winner, received the Spahn Award for the fourth time.
  • This weeks Topps Throwback Thursday online exclusive set features six cards using the '89 "Turn Back the Clock" Baseball card design; including a card of Mike Piazza in Dodgers Blue. Check that out on the right. Go here to check it out and order.
  • FYI: Former Dodger Ron Fairly has a memoir coming out called "Fairly at Bat." Per a press release:
Back Story Publishing today released baseball great Ron Fairly’s first-person memoir Fairly at Bat: My 50 years in baseball, from the batter's box to the broadcast booth written with former Los Angeles Times sports reporter and author Steve Springer. Fairly at Bat is a series of stories told in Fairly’s voice that cover his 50-year career as a player and broadcaster, including as a member of three World Series champion Dodgers teams in the 1950s and ‘60s. The book includes a foreword by Hall of Fame manager Tommy Lasorda, a timeline of Fairly's career from youth baseball in Long Beach, Calif., to the broadcast booth, until his retirement in 2012, and a statistical summary of his 20 years as a major leaguer.
  • Dodgers co-owner Todd Boehly is making waves in Hollywood. Via Ryan Faughnder at the LA Times; "'House of Cards' producer MRC merges with Dick Clark Productions and Hollywood Reporter publisher." Boehly has ownership interest in all three of these companies.
  • Milton in the news again. Via Timothy Rapp at the Bleacher Report; "Milton Bradley Reportedly Named as Suspect in Domestic Violence Investigation."
  • What?!?!?!?! Chase Utley joined Rob McElhenney -- of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" fame -- to make a little viral video. Check it out below, via twitter:
