Blog Kiosk: 3/14/2018 - Dodgers Links - Some Odds and Ends

RIP, Stephen Hawking. Per BBC:
"At the time, I thought my life was over and that I would never realise the potential I felt I had. But now, 50 years later, I can be quietly satisfied with my life."
Speaking to the BBC in 2002, his mother, Isobelle, described him as a "very normal young man".
She said: "He liked parties. He liked pretty girls - only pretty ones. He liked adventure and he did, to some extent, like work."
Below are more links to check out:

Revisiting the series of transactions that brought him to the Mets, the former All-Star told The Post he only agreed to waive his no-trade clause with the Dodgers after the team offered him additional compensation. Gonzalez indicated he said no to the trade five times before agreeing to the deal, with the promise he would be released by the Braves.
So what changed his mind?
“We had some internal discussions, let’s put it that way,” Gonzalez said smiling. “The Dodgers sweetened the deal every single time.”
Roberts said he’s discussed the problem with Pederson. At its root, Roberts said that Pederson allowed his focus to slip on defense; he lacked purpose.
“There’s a focus factor, I think,” Pederson said. “You’ve got to stay locked in on every pitch. You could lose a game on one pitch, you could win a game on one pitch.”
  • This is an old story, but since he's in news as visiting the Dodgers I suppose I should pass it along. Per Dave Zirin at The Nation; "What Losing the Brooklyn Dodgers Taught Bernie Sanders: A lesson about corporate greed and the power of ownership was instilled when the senator’s beloved team moved from Brooklyn to Los Angeles."
