Blog Kiosk: 4/11/2018 - Dodgers Links - Go Kings Go!

Corey Seager was given his second Silver Slugger Award prior to the start of last nights game. As a thank you, Seager walloped his first homer of the season during the game in the 1st inning - right after Chris Taylor did the same. Per Ken Gurnick at MLB.com:
"Can't really have a bad night getting that award," said Seager, who also won the award in his 2016 rookie season. "It was nice to get some runs early. They've been hard to come by. Everybody knew it was coming. Now it's just a matter of repeating."
On another note, the Kings begin the playoffs tonight against the Las Vegas Knights, so I'll be stuck to the tube watching that match-up. Go Kings Go!

In unrelated hockey news, I thought I would pass along Helene Elliott's story at the LA Times: "The hockey community is leaving hockey sticks out for the Humboldt boys."
The idea reportedly came from Brian Munz of Canada's TSN network, who posted a picture from a friend in Humboldt who had left a single stick on his front porch. The accompanying caption read, "Leaving it out on the porch tonight. The boys might need it ... wherever they are." It caught on quickly and spread far afield. Using the hashtag #Sticksoutfortheboys or #SticksoutforHumboldt, people have posted stunning photographs on social media of the sticks and tributes they've left outside homes in cities, prairies and suburbs.

“It’s been a long time. It’s been a long time,” Roberts said. “So for Major League Baseball and the city of Los Angeles to come together and get it here in 2020, I think it’s a thrill not only for the Dodgers but for the great fan base of Los Angeles.”
  • Last night the Dodgers gave out the first of six different 60th Anniversary Dodgers Baseball card sets to fans at the game, and unfortunately I was not there to get one. As soon as one arrives in my hands I'll share complete scans. In the meantime, Eric Stephen at True Blue LA on Twitter shared a pic of this set (see that below). BTW, if you happen to have a set available for sale or trade please let me know.

Q: What is your favorite taco in L.A.?
My favorite are the tacos at Guisados; all the different varieties they have there on Sunset Boulevard. My favorite dish overall is chile rellenos, but for tacos it’s Guisados. Those are great, especially the carnitas tacos.
Turner has continued running and throwing. Manager Dave Roberts said he was hopeful Turner would begin hitting next week.
"I'm in the best shape of my life," Turner said. "I've had an extended spring training, with everything but swinging a bat-- playing catch, running, lifting, fielding ground balls with my right hand, everthing."
During a seven-day period that ended Sunday, April 8, nearly $500,000 worth of Ohtani cards sold on eBay.  Twenty-six of those sales were for $3,000 or more.
