"It's the Dodgers, man, nobody likes the Dodgers," Lauer said with a wry grin. "You want to get them more than any other team." (per Ken Gurnick at MLB.com)
Padres rookie lefty Eric Lauer did quite a number against us last night -- throwing 8.2 innings of four-hit ball to lead San Diego to a 4-1 victory. Heck, he only got lifted from the game when All-Star Final Vote candidate Max Muncy shellacked a ball over the left field wall in the ninth inning.
Oh well, You can't win them all, eh? BTW, there's still time to vote for Muncy, so go here to do that.
On another note, I shared the quote at the very top because I just love hearing that kind of stuff.

- This Day in Dodgers History: In 1958 the Los Angeles city council declared this day to be 'Take Me Out to the Ball Game Day' -- celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of the iconic baseball song. In a pregame ceremony at the LA Memorial Coliseum, the Dodgers honor lyricist Jack Norworth by presenting him with a lifetime pass to any American or National League game. In 1978 Steve Garvey becomes the first two-time All-Star Game MVP in Baseball history. Garv recorded a game-tying, two-run single in the 3rd inning, a triple and run scored in the 8th inning to help the NL to beat the AL, 7-3. In 1980 the Dodgers sold knuckleballer Charlie Hough to the Rangers.

- Looking for Max Muncy autographed cards? Per Tracy Hackler at The Knight's Lance; "Five Years After His First Autographs Hit the Market, Max Muncy is Making His Mark."
As a result, Muncy’s few autographed trading cards — all from Panini America’s 2012 Elite Extra Edition Baseball and 2013 Prizm Perennial Draft Picks Baseball releases — are currently exhibiting every bit as much pop as the player on them. On April 18, just one day after Muncy was called up, one of his 2013 Prizm Perennial Draft Picks Baseball autograph cards sold for . . . $1.01. Two days ago, a copy of that card sold for $58. One of Muncy’s Red Ink autograph variations from 2012 Elite Extra Edition Baseball limited to just 25 copies changed hands for $13.99 in late May. By mid June, that card was selling for as much as $102.50.

Adversity is not a new concept to Castro, who grew up on a farm outside the city of San José de Los Llanos, Dominican Republic. His family was impoverished. Castro’s night didn’t end until he worked the soil, milked the cows and fed the chickens.“I want to give it everything I have, get to the big leagues and help my family,” Castro said of his family’s poverty. “I was in a poor, poor, poor family, so I want to help them and buy them everything they want someday.”
