- This Day in Dodgers History: In 1915 rookie Dodgers pitcher Ed Appleton committed a grievous error due to a bit of trickery by Cardinals manager Miller Huggins. In the seventh inning of a tied game Huggins, while coaching at third base, called for the ball from Appleton -- 'Let me see that ball'. Appleton obliged and tossed the ball, only to see Huggins step aside to allow ball to roll on the field. A Cardinal runner then scored a go-ahead run. The Dodgers protested, but time out hadn't been called, so the run counted. In 2003 Eric Gagne tied the single season record for consecutive saves to start the season at 38. It also marked the 46th consecutive regular-season save overall.

- ICYMI: Corey Seager's woes continue unabated. Per Do-Hyoung Park at MLB.com; "Corey Seager to have left hip surgery."
Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager will undergo arthoscopic surgery on his left hip on Tuesday, to be performed in New York by Dr. Bryan Kelly, according to a team release. The Dodgers expect Seager to resume baseball activities in January.

Rothe, who lives in a Baltimore suburb, has spent his life working with other printed goods in his family’s bookbinding business. He plunked down $500 for the chance to own one of the unseen cards inside.Now he’s fielding offers of $50,000 or more for the card, which was slot No. 19 in the pack. Others in the cellophane-enclosed pack opened Friday included Chicago Cubs Hall of Famer Ernie “Mr. Cub” Banks and Brooklyn Dodger standout Jim Gilliam.

- ICYMI: A dealer at the National Sports Collectors Convention this past weekend in Cleveland had his autograph inventory confiscated by the police due to forgery allegations. Rich Mueller at Sports Collectors Daily has the news. I'm glad that others dealers are being proactive about weeding out the scam artist that exist in the hobby -- and make no mistake, this kind of thing is a big problem.
