Blog Kiosk: 10/22/2018 - Dodgers Links - Some Odds and Ends

Here are a handful of Dodgers' Game 7 NLCS custom fantasy cards. I will be sure to make more of them soon, so stay tuned.

Below are more links to check out:
  • This Day in Dodgers HistoryIn 1965 the Dodgers released Wally Moon, whose famed "Moon Shots" over the short left field wire fence at the Coliseum helped propel Los Angeles towards a championship in 1959. In 1984 the Dodgers signed free agent reliever Brian Holton. He would eventually be an important cog to the Dodgers 1988 World Championship team -- going 7-3 on the season with an 1.70 ERA, a 2.72 FIP, 2.1 WAR, 49 strikeouts, 26 walks, one save in 45 appearances. In 2013 the Dodgers signed Cuban ballplayer Alex Guerrero.

  • Memorabilia Watch: These game-used jackets at Crown Sports Auctions could not have come at a better time. Check out a couple of John Tudor game-used and signed Dodger jackets (link here). He had been traded to the Dodgers in 1988 for Pedro Guerrero, and provided veteran leadership down the stretch.

  • Wow. What a crazy fun-fact, via a tweet from Jon Heyman:

  • What? Come on, Eric! Per Bob Nightengale at USA Today; "Red Sox closer Craig Kimbrel was tipping his pitches. Eric Gagne let Boston know."
Gagne, 42, became the most welcome snitch in Boston since Whitey Bulger, secretly informing his good friend, Red Sox manager Alex Cora, that his closer, Craig Kimbrel, was tipping his pitches.
Cora jumped on the information, passed it along to his pitching coach and video staff, and voila! his struggling closer is now fixed.
“We feel confident that he’s back," Cora said, “and that he’s going to dominate.”
  • Here's a helpful guide from Keith Law at ESPN; "Places to eat, drink and visit in Boston and Los Angeles."
  • Via Nik DeCosta-Klipa at Boston.com; "Julian Edelman is rooting for the Dodgers in the NLCS, but not because he likes them: "I hope they do make it, and the Sox pound 'em."" The New England wide receiver is a Giants fan. Boo!
  • This is now relevant to us. Per Rich Mueller at Sports Collectors Daily; "Steal a Base, Steal a Taco Promotion Includes Baseball Card Set."
The trading card set that will be handed out at restaurants will include the six “Taco Heroes” who’ve triggered the free food by stealing the first base in the series.  Here’s the catch:  The six Topps cards will be available only in local restaurants around the ballparks hosting the World Series beginning with Game One on October 23, and the only way to get them is to buy a special baseball cap that’s also part of the promotion.  The pack will include six Taco Hero cards each with their own exclusive imagery and stats.
  • To the surprise of no one, there'll be no National on the west coast til at least 2023. Per Bert Lehman at Sports Collectors Digest; "Future National Sports Collectors Convention sites announced."
  • Bernie, a Brooklyn Dodger fan, sent his congratulations, via twitter:
