  • This Day in Dodgers History: In 1939 former Dodger Wee Willie Keeler (along with George Sisler and Eddie Collins) are elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Keeler had famously said, "hit 'em where they ain't." In 1963 the Dodgers acquired Don Zimmer in a trade with the Reds for a minor leaguer. This is Don's second stint with the team; having originally been signed by Brooklyn as an amateur in 1949 and rising up their ranks. In 2006 the Dodgers signed free agent reliever and soon-to-be legend Joe BeimelIn 2014 the Dodgers signed free agent utilityman Chone Figgins.

  • Free Agent Signing News: The Dodgers are apparently in agreement to sign outfielder AJ Pollock, per a tweet from Ken RosenthalBob Nightengale on twitter adds that it's a four-year deal at $50 million:
  • This is a must watch. An enterprising Dodger fan decided to launch a Vin Scully bobblehead into the stratosphere with a weather balloon. Go here to see the video. (Per Redditor u/ploploplo)
  • As I'm sure you know by know, the Dodgers have five farmhands in Baseball America's Topp-100 Prospects list. Via Cary Osborne at Dodger Insider; "Verdugo, Ruiz rated Dodgers’ top prospects on highly regarded lists."
  • This will impact the Dodgers. Per Ronald Blum at AP; "MLB seeks to increase DL, option time."
Advanced analytics have shown team executives that starting pitchers are less successful the third time through the batting order. Increased DL and minor league option use has led to a strategy of teams rotating their middle relievers with their minor league affiliates in order to have more available pitchers each day. Teams even began using relievers as “openers” to start games last season, a trend sparked by the Tampa Bay Rays.
As part of the plan, a player optioned would have to spend at least 15 days in the minor leagues, up from 10. That limit has been waived when a player is recalled to replace someone going on the DL, gets suspended under the drug or domestic violence agreements, or goes on a paternity or bereavement list.
The California native spent his second full season in Lancaster in 2018, being named an All-Star for the third time. He led the league with 28 home runs, one shy of the Barnstormers’ franchise record and knocked in 91 runs while becoming the first player in club history to appear in every game on the schedule. He hit .282 on the season.
...
“I couldn’t be more excited to sign back with the Dodgers,” said Gailen. “I have been going to Dodgers games since I could walk, and being part of such a storied franchise is an honor and a privilege.”
