Yesterday was Photo Day at Camelback Ranch, and as you might expect some great pics were shared all over social media. As you know, everyone from Major League Baseball to Topps Baseball cards came out with their camera's. Featured above, via a tweet from the Dodgers, is Kenley Jansen and little Joe Kelly. Go here to check out more pics from Photo Day by Jon SooHoo.
Below are more links to check out:
- This Day in Dodgers History: In 1953 Tommy Lasorda is sold to the St. Louis Brown. He would then be returned to the Dodgers in late-March. In 1957 Dodgers owner Walter O'Malley traded minor league franchises with Phil Wrigley of the Cubs. Brooklyn traded the Ft. Worth club (Texas League) in return for the Los Angeles Angels (Pacific Coast League). In 1984 outfielder Dusty Baker is granted free agency. He played eight season in Los Angeles, slashing .281/.343/.437/.780 with 144 home runs and 586 RBI's.
- Happy Birthday, Jack Billingham, Franklin Gutierrez, Ted Savage, Sam Fletcher & Norman Plitt!
- Spring Training Notes: Julio Urías threw live batting practice on Wednesday to outfielders Shane Peterson and Paulo Orlando. Also throwing live batting practice today were Scott Alexander, Tony Cingrani, Caleb Ferguson, Pedro Báez, Josh Fields, Dylan Floro, JT Chargois and Yadier Alvarez. Walker Buehler threw his first bullpen of Spring Training, while Clayton Kershaw, Jaime Schultz, Daniel Corcino, Joe Broussard, and Stetson Allie continued their pen work.

- Via Tim Brown at Yahoo Sports; "Matt Kemp knew he had a friend in Ol’ Newk."
“So, yeah, he was always on me,” Kemp, now a Cincinnati Red, recalled Wednesday morning. “When I wasn’t playing the way I was supposed to be playing he’d let me know. And every time I did something good I’d look up there in the owner’s box, where he always sat, and you know just kinda look up there and see if he saw what I was doing.“And, he thought he was a better hitter than me.”
- No more plastic straws! Via a tweet from Pedro Moura:
The Dodgers will no longer serve plastic straws at Dodger Stadium. You will be able to get a paper straw if you want one.— Pedro Moura (@pedromoura) February 20, 2019
- Via Cary Osborne at Dodger Insider; "Urías, Buehler make first impressions."
“It’s hard for me to (hold back),” Buehler said “I can’t. It’s not a velocity thing. It’s just if I’m going to be on a mound it’s difficult for me to command the ball if I’m not throwing close to full effort.”...
Martin gave Urías high marks from what he has seen thus far in camp.
“He seems like he’s really polished for a young kid. Mechanically, he’s sound,” Martin said. “What I recognized is he either hits the spot or if he misses he’s missing around the target, so he’s really consistent with his lanes. Never any big misses — which is unusual. Usually, young kids are still learning their bodies, still learning mechanics.”
- Per Jorge Castillo at the LA Times; "Dodgers’ Max Muncy comes into spring training this season with a different feel."
Muncy debuted for the Dodgers carting various mechanical adjustments he implemented after the Oakland Athletics cut him the previous year. He crouched more at the plate, relied more on his legs and amplified his aggressiveness. But the most important changes, he said, were between the ears.“I made a lot of mental changes that I felt like was the turning point for me,” Muncy said. “Mental changes for everything.”
- Per Cat Garcia at Yahoo Sports; "Details on the violent death of Dee Gordon's mother shine different light on domestic abuse in MLB."
Just two days before the murder of his mother, Gordon witnessed a physical argument between DeVona Strange, his mother, and Lynford Schultz, his mother’s live-in boyfriend.“Do you want me to leave, little man?” Gordon recalls being asked by Schultz. At 7 years old, it’s hard to make a conscious decision to protect the person whose role is still to nurture and protect you.
Gordon answered no, that he did not want him to leave.
“That’s why, for a long, long time, I felt it was my fault,” Gordon said.
