2019 Topps 150 Years of Baseball - #17 - Jackie Breaks the Color Barrier

The second Dodger card available through Topps newest online exclusive card brand, 2019 Topps 150 Years of Baseball, features the historic moment Jackie Robinson changed the game and the country. Go here to check it out and order.

On April 15th, 1947 Jackie Robinson did something that hadn't been done since before the Modern Era -- he became the first African-American to to play a Major League game. It was Opening Day and he would face Johnny Sain of the Boston Braves in Ebbets Field. Unfortunately, Jackie wouldn't get a hit on this day, but he did score a decisive run in the seventh inning that put the Dodgers on top for good. Go here to check out a boxscore.

On another note, I wish they used a different photo for this card. After all, it would have been much more appropriate to feature a pic of him on the field during this game. Instead, Topps uses a photo of Jackie signing a contract with the Montreal Royals, a Dodgers minor league affiliate, in late-1945.
