In celebration of Cody Bellinger earning the National League 'Player of the Month' honors for the month of April I made the above two fantasy custom Baseball cards of him. Per Chad Thornburg at MLB.com:
"I'm understanding how to use my swing and working in the cage every day to repeat what I'm doing," Bellinger said. "Just not trying to do too much. It's fun, for sure. Every day before the game, I know what I want to do. The days I feel off, it's knowing what it is I want to do and getting it back."Below are more links to check out:
- This Day in Dodgers History: In 1947 Branch Rickey made a trade that sent a signal to the Dodgers clubhouse - He will not waiver in his commitment to break the color barrier and support Jackie Robinson. He trades Kirby Higbe, Dixie Howell, Cal McLish, Hank Behrman and Gene Mauch to Pittsburgh for Al Gionfriddo and $100,000. Higbe is the special target of this trade, as he openly disapproved of Robinson as a teammate. In 1986 Ron Cey hit his 300th and 301st career home runs. He did it as a Cub against the Giants.
- Happy Birthday, Dan Bankhead, Chris Cannizzaro, Davey Lopes & Darren Dreifort!
- Per Mike Oz at Yahoo Sports -- "My First Home Run: How Max Muncy reacted when he got the silent treatment from teammates."
- This is fun. Apparently, Cody Belling is boyhood friends with the Pirates shortstop Cole Tucker, and Cut4 shared a video on twitter to prove it:
We sat down with @Dodgers slugger (and freshly minted NL Player of the Month) @Cody_Bellinger and his good friend, well-coiffed @Pirates rookie @cotuck to play.....— Cut4 (@Cut4) May 2, 2019

- Wow! Noted artist Tim Carroll, known for portraits using cut-up Baseball cards, now has a piece in the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown as a part of the 'Shoebox Treasures' exhibit, and it's of Sandy Koufax's 1955 Topps card. Check it out on the right. Bill Francis at the HOF writes all about it here.
- This was funny. Per Gary Peterson at The Mercury News -- "Video: Giants announcers roundly troll bumbling, yawning Dodgers fans."
- This coming Wednesday is Mexican Heritage Night (May 8th) at Dodger Stadium and the club is giving away a Mexican Heritage Night jersey to fans who order a special ticket package online (link here). As you can imagine, this promotion has been very popular... So popular, in fact, it has already sold more than 15,000 tickets -- a new MLB record -- per a tweet by Darren Rovell. BTW, because of these huge sales the Dodgers have created two different ways for fans to get their jersey's. Go here for more info. Below are some of those details:
If you bought your Mexican Heritage Night ticket pack ticket before 11:35 am PT on Sunday, April 28, the only way to claim your jersey will be in-stadium on May 8, and the policies communicated in our standard Ticket Pack FAQs will apply.Transactions occurring after 11:35 am PT on Sunday, April 28 will have their jersey(s) direct shipped.
More than 15,000 special event tickets have been purchased to the @Dodgers Mexican Heritage Night on May 8, which comes with this jersey. It’s already the record for the most ticket packages sold to special event game in MLB history. pic.twitter.com/BQkRzaIonA— Darren Rovell (@darrenrovell) May 1, 2019
