AJ Pollack had a big game, going 2-for-4 with a two-run homer in the sixth inning. Unfortunately, the rest of the guys seemed to be elsewhere. Per Rowan Kavner at Dodger Insider:
“I think we were focused,” Pollock said. “Maybe the energy was a little bit down, but we for the most part pushed pretty hard. We were just a little flat on offense.”The Dodgers lost to Baltimore, 7-3 (boxscore). Photo above via Jon SooHoo/LA Dodgers 2019 at Dodger Insider. “I wouldn’t say anybody necessarily stayed up later than we usually do or anything,” Stripling said. “Certainly not an excuse by any means. I imagine it may not be a winning record for teams after they clinch, but it’s definitely not an excuse that we’ll use.”
- This Day in Dodgers History: In 1930 Dodger catcher Al Lopez hit the last Major League bounced home run. It was off Ray Kolp at Ebbets Field. Prior to the rule change any hit ball that bounced over the outfield walls was ruled a homer. Now, it'll be a ground-rule double. In 1963 the NY Mets hold a pregame ceremony in honor of Brooklyn favorite Duke Snider - "I look up into the stands, and it looks like Ebbets Field. The Mets are wonderful, but you can’t take the Dodger out of Brooklyn." In 2000 Dave Hanson broke former Dodger Johnny Frederick's record for pinch-hit home runs during a season when he hit his seventh pinch-homer of the year against Curt Schilling of the Diamondbacks. BTW, Johnny Frederick set his record of six pinch-homers on this exact same date in 1932.

- Max Muncy is coming back, via a tweet from Alanna Rizzo:
Max Muncy will fly to NYC tomorrow to meet the team. The plan is for him to be activated off of the IL for the series against the #Mets.— Alanna Rizzo (@alannarizzo) September 11, 2019
- Kenley Jansen has been named the Dodgers’ 2019 nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award -- an annual recognition of a Major League player who best represents the game of Baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field. He will be recognized on the field prior to Wednesday's game, September 18th, against the Rays. Per a press release:
After being diagnosed with atrial fibrillation (or AFib, an irregular heartbeat), Heart has been at the root of Jansen’s community involvement during his numerous visits to hospitals, schools and ballfields throughout Los Angeles and Curacao, and also the creation of the Kenley Jansen Foundation earlier this year. The mission of the Foundation is to impact the lives of families who have seriously ill and chronically ill children, by providing them with daily support through life-improving resources and life-changing experiences. The Foundation’s signature outreach program has been the creation of Kenley’s Lockers at pediatric hospitals and Ronald McDonald houses throughout greater Los Angeles. The branded cabinets are stocked with entertainment systems – iPads, gaming consoles, portable DVD players, laptops, etc – to help patients stay in good spirits and bring the comforts of home to long hospital stays. Jansen has pledged $500 per strikeout (up to $50,000) this year to support this initiative, and encouraged others to join his efforts. The program was also supported by the Foundation’s first annual ‘A Night of Courageous Hearts’ fundraising event held on July 22, which was attended by Dodger players and celebrities.
- This mornings Baseball America Prospect Report makes note of shortstop Jeter Downs:
Downs got the offense ignited for Double-A Tulsa as they took down Amarillo in game two of the Texas League finals. Jeter collected four hits and a walk while driving in three runs and scoring five times from the leadoff spot. The infielder set the tone early, starting the game with a leadoff homer. After Tulsa plated two more runs, Amarillo answered with eight runs in the bottom of the first. Tulsa fought back and scored nine runs across the next two innings. Downs cranked another solo shot in the fifth inning, followed by a third one to finish off his night in the ninth inning.

“They’re two of the best organizations in baseball right now. Everyone’s looking to them as model franchises and trying to follow suit. It’s just the way the business works.”...
“The thing is, that’s not going to work for everybody. Not everybody can have great drafts every year,” veteran Dodgers starter Rich Hill said. “There’s only so many diamonds in the rough out there. Now, it depends on whether you have the scouts that can pick those guys out. Obviously, that’s a huge tip of the cap to the scouting department here with the Dodgers and the Houston Astros.
“They’ve done incredibly well at drafting and developing and finding undervalued guys from other organizations, because they see them and say, ‘Well, you know what, we have the coaches that can develop that talent.’ ”
