All the hot stove stuff has me yearning for some Baseball. Featured above is a March 6, 1949 AP press photograph from that springs first game intra-squad game (eBay auction link). I love the backdrop -- seeing all the youngsters in the makeshift dugout and the Dodgertown barracks that house all the ballplayers.
WHITMAN FLIES OUT IN INTRA-SQUAD GAME. Dick Whitman, Dodger outfielder, flies put in first inning of the first intra-squad game for the Brooklyn club at their Vero Beach, Fla., training camp. Catcher Lembo and umpire Andrews watch the ball sail to the outfield."Below are more links to check out:
- This Day in Dodgers History: In 1941 the Dodgers traded for soon to be Hall of Famer Arky Vaughan from the Pirates in exchange for Pete Coscarart, Luke Hamlin, Babe Phelps and Jimmy Wasdell. In 1998 the Dodgers signed free agent starting pitcher Kevin Brown to a seven year $105 million contract -- thus becoming the first $100 million man in Baseball. In 2012 the Dodgers received Skip Schumaker in a trade with the Cardinals -- sending Jake Lemmerman to St. Louis in return.

“Growing up right outside of Chattanooga, baseball played a critical role in my life,” said Honeycutt. “The lessons I learned from the game have served me well both on and off the field. I’m honored to be recognized by the Classic 150 and I’m looking forward to spending the evening with family and friends,” said Honeycutt.

"Gavin is in the mix," he said. "He really came out of the gates and performed well. He struggled a little bit like a lot of young players do. ... Right now, he's in the mix, but we have a long way to go before we break camp. To look back on a year ago and see how much he's matured, I'm very, very proud of him. He's going to play the game at this level for a long time. But we've got a long time before we break camp."
- Per Ben Clemens at FanGraphs -- "Blake Treinen and the Dodgers Are a Great Match."\
The Dodgers are making a specific bet with this contract. If Treinen’s sinker returns to form, he’s a bargain. There are reasons to believe it’ll work; he was bothered by injury for most of 2019, including an IL stint at the end of June. His release point was all over the place, presumably out of a combination of searching for his lost form and dealing with injury. His velocity dip was largely post-injury; an offseason of rest could fix that. But until he pitches in 2020, we can’t know.

The Dodgers didn’t make Anthony Rendon an offer, per sources. Their sense was he didn’t want to play in LA. Orange County apparently was a different story.— Jorge Castillo (@jorgecastillo) December 12, 2019
